“Yes what?”

“Yes, master.”

“Good girl.”

With those final words, he leaves me to stand, weak-kneed and blurry-eyed, in the kitchen.

I’m still reeling from what just happened. But through all of the dying electricity and aching muscles, I find myself smiling.

Good girl.

It’s like a revelation.

For so long, I’ve been trying to be a good girl. Call it what you want. An act of rebellion, a crisis of identity. I tried to leave the darkness I was born into behind and start something new in the light of a regular life.

But I will never have a regular life.

And maybe that’s alright.

I’m not a good girl.

Never was.

Ray is making sure I understand that. He’s teaching me.

His tongue gave me a taste of how bad I can truly be.

Now, it’s all I can think of.

I want more. I need more.

And only he can give it to me.

Ray

“You’re late.”

If I didn’t know him any better, I might think Maksim was about to smile.

The competitive bastard likes to win, and he beat me here. But that doesn’t mean I’m late. Guys like us never are.

“The meeting doesn’t start for another fifteen minutes,” I remind him.

“And you’re always thirty minutes early.”

All I can do is shrug. “So, I’m late for me, but not for this meeting. Are the bosses here?”

With something that could be construed as a smirk, Maksim nods. “They’re just waiting on you.”

“How flattering.”

In a way, I am actually honored. This is a true sign that I’ve made it. The five kings have decided to meet at the almighty Aiden Kilpatrick’s office. They almost never all gather together unless there is a particularly major matter on the docket. Whatever I’m here for, it’s important. Yet, they didn’t even think of starting without me.

The Great Don.

Maybe this is real, after all. Even if it still feels like one big dream.
