“If you’re sending me home, then our deal is off,” I spit. “I’m not your slave anymore, I can ask you whatever I want.”
Ray shakes his head. “The deal is still on, kitten. I was never supposed to hang onto you forever. Only for a few days, then I would return you to your father and claim all of the credit for your rescue.”
He’s not wrong. But that doesn’t make me feel any better.
“What if I don’t go along with it?” I ask, foolishly.
“Oh, you will,” Ray’s smirk gets bigger.
“What makes you so sure?”
“Because if you don’t, I’ll show you what I keep under the bed. And then you’ll have no choice but to stick to our story. I’ll make sure of it.”
A thick bile works its way down my throat as I gulp at the prospect of learning what a man like Ray might do to an uncooperative girl like me. But even through the fear, I can’t help the little ball of red-hot arousal that pulses in my core.
“… What is our story?” I ask, feeling smaller than I ever have before.
“It’s simple,” Ray shrugs. “You were kidnapped by Iskhak Artuzov. An old Russian spy. I killed him to rescue you.”
“Do I know his name?”
“Only because I told you.”
“Where did he keep me?”
“You don’t know. There was a bag over your head most of the time.”
“I would have had to take the bag off to eat.”
“That’s true. But he kept a light shining in your face whenever the bag was off. An old Soviet technique. You never got a good look at your surroundings.”
“Did he take me from my room at home?” I ask, hoping through all the dread that, at the very least, my father won’t have to find out about school.
“He must have,” Ray smirks. “But you don’t remember anything, except waking up somewhere strange with a bag over your head.”
“Why did he take me?” For as little as I want to go along with Ray’s twisted story, I know it’s in my best interest to get everything right.
I may not like my home, but I’ll be safer there. Plus, if push comes to shove, I know how to escape that cage.
“He never told you,” Ray shrugs, as if he’s making this all up on the spot.
“This isn’t a very good alibi,” I mumble. My focus on what I have to do next is slowly smothering my dread. But that doesn’t mean it isn’t still there, sitting heavy in my heart.
“You don’t have to worry about that, kitten. You just stick to this story, and everything will work out fine.”
He must think I’m stupid. Like I would forget the part of his wicked plan where I’m supposed to get pregnant.
He doesn’t know about the Plan B.
And I’m not going to tell him, especially not now.
“Who says I won’t sneak out to the corner store the first night that I’m home and get Plan B?”
“You could do that,” Ray smiles, mischief blazing from his dark brown eyes. “But then I would have to fuck you again.”
“I wouldn’t want that,” I sneer, playing up my disgust, even as the hot fist clenched inside my core begs for him to do just that.
“Then, don’t make me. Steer clear of that corner store. In a few days, I’ll stop by and take you out to dinner. By the time your belly starts to grow, we’ll have been ‘dating’ for long enough to cover it up.”
