He’s actually made me miss him.
The bastard.
“You’re late,” I snort, the moment he’s within earshot.
To my surprise, the agitation I spotted on him at the bar seems to have mostly melted away.
“I’ve been here for half-an-hour already,” he says, still not completely recovered.
Pulling out a chair, Rian sits down across from me. Those ocean blue eyes dig deep into my soul.
Under the table cloth, I use my foot to nudge a special package closer to me. The heavy crown doesn’t make a sound as I nestle it between my ankles.
“I didn’t see you.”
“Liar.”
Unfurling his serviette, Rian flashes it out like a matador before gently placing it on his lap.
I bite the inside of my lip.
How am I already horny?
“Would we like a drink for the table?”
I’m so distracted by my lion that I don’t even hear the server approach.
My first instinct is to reach for the knife holstered to my ankle, but I manage to stop myself before I can make a scene.
“Not used to nice restaurants, huh?” Rian quietly taunts, taking a drink menu from the well-dressed waiter.
“Not used to being snuck up on.”
“Distracted by something?”
Don’t say anything about his eyes. Don’t say anything about his eyes.
Waving away the server, Rian sets his deep gaze back on me. He seems to have shed the last bits of his agitation, and a suave, more relaxed demeanor is settling in.
It only makes me tense up even more.
What does he have up his sleeve?
“I’m just waiting for you to spring your trap,” I tell him.
Rian huffs, the faintest smirk revealing those heart-pulling dimples of his.
“My trap? As if I had time to set up a trap. You’re text only came in—”
“My text?” I interrupt, confused. “I never sent you a text.”
Rian rolls his eyes.
“No need to be coy, angel. I know how much you missed me.”
“You’re the one who invited me here,” I remind him, remembering the next I received two hours ago.
I’m sorry about your throat. Let me make it up to you. How about dinner at La Forcina? Tonight. Say 9 pm? Don’t show me up.
