Shit. What am I going to do with an entire army?
It’s been an entire year since Tytus and I found out that there was no secret Polish force waiting for us in the shadows. That the mythos we’d been fed all our lives was a lie. That the inheritance we stole from Gabriel only included riches, and no inherent power.
I’d long since resigned myself to the fact that I was never going to be some great commander. If we were going to take power, and our revenge, we’d have to be sneaky about it.
But now the question has remerged.
What will I do with an entire army at my command?
For years, the brutal answer to that question was clear as day.
Destroy. Everyone.
Go scorched earth. Leave no survivors.
Now, though, I hardly even know what I want to do with Rian.
Do I want to destroy him?
… Or join him?
My shriveled heart flickers.
Fuck.
Turning away from the empty rock, I step over the shallow grave at my feet and slowly start to follow after Drago’s silhouette.
With a concerted effort, I push Rian from my mind. I’ll deal with him later. Right now, I only need to focus on one thing.
How to kill Leander Onasis.
Apparently, he’s all that stands between me and the army of my dreams.
My fingers tighten around my gun handle.
That fucker is going to pay.
The real question is, will I end him quickly or make him suffer?
Gazing ahead, I watch as Drago walks through the overgrown ruins of my village. For just a split second, I swear I see his thin, sickly silhouette grow back into that dark, intimidating figure I first saw all those years ago.
The devil in the storm.
My savior in that burning castle.
The warmth inside me grows a little more.
Maybe I don’t have to think about what I’ll do to Leander.
Maybe, when the time comes, I’ll just let my dad decide.
27
Rian
It takes all of my willpower not to pounce.
The fuckers who tried to frame me are barely a hundred yards away. They’ve parked at the other end of this dark alley. I can see the lights on their phone screens as they sit around, waiting for further instructions.
