Somewhere, in the distance, I hear Tytus roar.

“You fucking bastard,” I cry, lunging at Leander.

I don’t make it on time.

The gun goes off and Drago’s skull is blown into a thousand tiny pieces.

“No!”

The horror of it all sends me falling to the ground. It feels like I’ve been plunged back beneath those heavy black waves I first fell into near Drago’s island cave hideout.

But who will jump in after me this time?

A storm of gunfire erupts around me as I fight back burning tears and try to scramble onto my feet.

“I’ll kill you,” I shout at Leander, but I can barely even hear myself over the chaos, let alone anyone else.

Still, as I look toward the wicked Greek billionaire, I can read his slimy lips.

“Shoot her. Kill him.”

A split second later, I feel Something sharp pinch into the back of my neck.

Almost immediately, a flurry of big black dots spot my tear-filled vision. My eyelids become so heavy I can barely keep them open, and my body becomes so numb I don’t feel any pain as I fall.

My cheek cracks against the hard stone ground. I can’t even whimper. I’m paralyzed.

My racing pulse starts to slow. My vision fades. All I can do is watch as an army of ghosts seeps out from the thick green foliage that surrounds us.

No…

This whole time, we’ve been surrounded. There was never any hope. We were tricked.

Leander outmaneuvered us.

My skull burns. My vision worsens.

Somewhere nearby, a flashbang goes off. Out of the corner of my eye, I can just barely make out Tytus fighting for his life.

I try to call to him, but nothing comes out.

Any warmth I’d ever felt is erased from my body. The world turns freezing cold.

Everything goes black.

“Fuck, this place is well hidden,” Deacon remarks.

“And well protected,” I grumble.

Pushing the barrel of his rifle through a tangled wall of hanging vines, he cautiously moves them aside.

We both tense up, ready for another trap.

To our relief, nothing comes.
