How can I love someone I don’t even entirely trust?
When I first heard about the attack, my initial reaction was to assume Rozalia had something to do with it. It didn’t matter that we had just shared the best night of my life. She was still a femme fatale. The Black Cat.
But fuck me if I don’t love that.
She isn’t just any black cat anymore.
She’s my Black Cat.
“I have some idea,” Tytus huffs. His outstretched hand remains offered to me as I straighten myself back up.
“What does that mean?” I ask, not ready to take his offer just yet.
“It means I understand my sister well enough to know when something has changed. Believe me, Roz doesn’t change easily. But something has changed. Someone has changed her.”
“Who?” I foolishly ask.
“You.”
My frozen heart starts to pound again as I come to my senses. I look down to the floor. It’s covered in blood.
My pounding head aches. My chest too.
“Where is she?” I ask, my voice shaking.
I need her to be alright. I need to see her again.
I need to hold her and never let her go.
Fuck it.
I’m in love.
“I’m not 100% percent sure,” Tytus coughs. “But I know how to figure it out. My big problem will be rescuing her from that Greek asshole. He’s got an army of mercenaries on his side.”
“Leander has her?”
“Who else?”
“I don’t fucking know. You. Maybe Drago?”
Suddenly, Tytus’ outstretched arm drops. His hand crashes into the floor like a thousand-pound weight.
“Drago…” the beast of a man whispers.
Are those tears welling up in his eyes?
“What the fuck happened?” I ask, my desperation growing alongside my suspicion. “How did a pathetic fucker like Leander Onasis manage to capture a woman like Rozalia Dorn?”
“We got cocky,” Tytus sighs, those hazy eyes drifting off again.
“You were with her?”
“We all were.”
My heart squirms against the idea that Roz had gone directly back to Tytus after dinner.
The man who helped tear that wonderful night away from us.
