“To do what?”
“To explain it.”
Those perfect red lips curl as she thinks on it for a second. My full heart jumps when I see a lightbulb go off in those impossibly beautiful green eyes.
“It feels like home,” she says, a happy sigh lifting her chest. “No matter where we are. When we’re together, it feels like home.”
“And it always will, angel,” I say. Rubbing my thumbs over the back of her hands, I lean down and kiss her.
“Promise?” she whispers into my mouth.
“I promise.”
Epilogue
Rozalia
Three months later…
“It’s not happening.”
I don’t know how many times I have to tell Rian that before he gets the message.
“It will be good for you,” he insists.
“No. it won’t be.”
“How do you know?”
“Because I’ve already been back once now, and the person who met me there is dead because of it. That place is cursed.”
With a shallow sigh, Rian reaches past me and takes the handle of the tall ballroom door.
His other hand wraps around my palm.
“Drago isn’t dead because you two went back to your old village,” he whispers.
My heart dips.
“A curse is a curse,” I mumble.
“I don’t believe in curses. But I do believe in second chances. I believe in revisiting the emptiness of your past. I believe that’s the only way any one of us can truly be full. It’s what helped me turn into a real king. I’m convinced it can help you too.”
“Are you full?” I ask, sinking beneath his strong grip.
“Yes,” he nods, a soft smile bringing out his heart-stopping dimples. “I’m overflowing.”
Those ocean blue eyes don’t flinch. I feel so safe beneath his gaze.
But Rian is right. I’m not completely full. Not yet. Not even with all the love he gives me.
Something is missing.
Closure.
He thinks I’ll find it back at the village where my story started. I don’t know why. But I’m not entirely convinced.
Too much pain remains there. If I go back, then it could seep out of the ruins and corrupt the life I have now. It’s a nearly perfect life—at least, it’s as close to perfect as someone like me is going to get.
