Lilianna stood up. Hunter put an arm around her shoulders in a friendly way, then clasped hands with Dylan and pulled him to his feet. They’d already paid for their drinks, so once Dylan grabbed Lilianna’s hand, the three of them made their way out of the bar. Hunter took them out the side door. They’d have to cross the parking lot to get to his vehicle, but perhaps the thug waited out front.

No one followed them, and Hunter hadn’t noticed the thug he’d seen staring at Lilianna initially anywhere still inside the tavern. But the guy likely hadn’t gone very far.

They stepped out into the crisp night air. Hunter could see his breath already. Lilianna’s seductive, ball-tightening scent wrapped around his head again as they exited. Her hands moved to her upper arms and she rubbed up and down vigorously. She was wearing a long-sleeved shirt but no jacket.

“Where’s your coat?” he asked.

She lifted her arm and pointed east. “Less than a mile down the road in my broken-down car.”

“What’s wrong with it? Engine trouble?” Dylan asked. He was a car mechanic among other things. One of his passions was tinkering around with and fixing cars.

“Nope. Flat tire on the rear passenger side with a blown sidewall and no spare.” She rubbed her upper arms again.

Hunter quickly shrugged his denim jacket off and draped it over her shoulders. She looked up at him with what looked like astonished gratitude as she threaded her arms though the sleeves. “Thank you.”

“My pleasure.” And it was. In her immediate presence, he was hot enough without a jacket. Plus, he couldn’t wait to wear it again, hoping her scent would mingle with the fabric. He’d remember meeting her all over again. Slam. His cock surged as they stared at each other.

Lilianna leaned up and kissed his cheek. Slam. Her lips felt like a seductive punch to his midsection. He had to curb his sincere desire to groan out loud in appreciation. She pulled away a few inches, but her intent gaze remained on his face. He leaned forward slowly, trying to decide whether to indulge his desire for a lip-lock or wait, but she met him halfway, pressing a quick, sweet kiss to his mouth.

Her lips were soft, moist, and his cock pulsed the moment they connected. The quick kiss was followed promptly by another more engaging one. Also initiated by her. As if the first hadn’t been enough to quench the desire bubbling up between them.

The tip of her sweet tongue swept a tingling path along the seam of his lips, dipping inside for a taste. He responded in kind, noting that she tasted even better than she smelled. The sappy feeling returned with the second kiss, which was so engaging it seemed to tickle his soul with the notion that this girl was special and that he should pay attention. That had never happened when he’d kissed a girl before.

He truly wanted to grab her up, press her to the nearest wall, and have his wicked way with her as soon as possible. But it was cold—even though he didn’t currently feel the temperature—and they were on the way to a much more comfortable place. Hunter released her and took a half step away from her seductive lure.

The desire still lingering in her eyes bolstered his resolve to see her safely away from this place. Dylan wrapped an arm around her shoulders, hugging her close to his body as they moved through the parking lot at the side of the rustic building.

“What kind of car is it?” Dylan asked her. “I can get it towed into town for you.”

“It’s a beat-up four-door sedan with metallic black paint, and quite a few rust spots. And you don’t have to do that, although I appreciate your offer.”

Hunter turned to lead them toward his SUV. He hadn’t taken half a dozen steps before the thug appeared, blocking their path. Only he wasn’t alone this time. From behind him, he heard Lilianna suck in a shocked breath. He hated to hear her distress. She shouldn’t have to be afraid.

The innate skills he possessed and had then honed in his younger days, courtesy of his military service, suddenly zoomed to the forefront. He found a comfortable stance, at the ready to kick ass. Hunter would die to protect his woman. The realization came easily after only kissing her, and the memorable scent that would linger in his soul forever.
