“Keegan’s good at making drinks,” Maggie says, giving her brother a proud smile from across the room. “I wonder where Kane and Shawn are?”

“They’re not allowed in here tonight,” Maeve replies. “We’re here to let off some steam, and we’ll do it without being judged by our brothers.”

“Why does Keegan get to be here?” I ask.

“Because there are no drinks without him,” Maeve says.

“We could have gone somewhere in the city,” Joy suggests. “Where no one can judge.”

“I’d like to stay close to home for now,” Maggie admits. “I know it seems silly, but it feels safest. I’ve been keeping a low profile.”

“Here, have another drink,” I suggest, pushing my untouched lemon drop to Maggie. “You need it.”

“You’ve no idea how right you are,” Maggie says. “Is it wrong that I’ve been drunk more since Joey died than I ever was when he was alive?”

“No. The man would drive anyone to drink,” Maeve says. “And we’re not here to talk about him.”

“Oh, Stasia,” Joy says in excitement. “My sister asked me to ask you if you would be willing to make her wedding cake.”

“Of course! When is Noel getting married?”

“In a few months. But we know you book up quickly. She and Reed will come see you.”

“That’s lovely,” Maggie says with a wistful sigh.

“Mary Margaret, you need more liquor,” Maeve says, signaling to Keegan for another round.

“Let’s talk about sex,” Lia suggests and giggles. She’s had a few lemon drops of her own, and her cheeks are nice and rosy. “That’s what girls’ night out is for, right?”

“I mean, I’m not getting any,” Maeve says with a frown. “And it’s a damn shame.”

“I don’t want any,” Maggie adds. “Never again.”

“Never again?” I ask, shocked. “I mean, it makes sense that you’re not ready right now, but you’re only, what? Twenty-four?”

“Twenty-five,” she says. “Maybe I should just join a convent. Dedicate myself to God for all of time.”

“That would be a shame. No offense,” Lia says. “I’m sure that for some, that’s the right path. But you’re just sad. And mad. And you totally should be.”

As soon as we arrived at the pub, and before we could get many drinks into her, Maggie told Joy and Lia all about finding out about Joey’s affairs and the child that was the result of one of them.

“But don’t give up on men altogether,” Joy adds. “There are some good ones out there. You just found a lemon.”

Maggie snorts. “That was his last name. And my siblings got a huge kick out of it, always calling him a lemon. Because he was.”

“But not all men are,” I repeat. “And there are some who will not only be nice to you but also give you the most amazing orgasms you’ve ever had in your life.”

“I’ve never had an orgasm,” Maggie admits, slurring her words just a bit.

We all sit in shocked silence.

“Well, that’s a damn shame,” Lia finally says.

“And it should be illegal,” I agree.

“Maybe there’s a hot man here tonight who could give me an orgasm,” Maggie says, scanning the room.

“All I see is a bunch of old guys who don’t want to go home to their wives, so they’re sitting here getting drunk,” Maeve says. “You know, the usual.”

“Wait.” Joy points to a guy at the end of the bar, chatting with Keegan. “Who’s that?”

“Oh, that’s just Cameron,” Maggie says, shaking her head. “Trust me, he’s not orgasm material.”

As if he can hear our conversation, Cameron glances our way.

“I don’t know,” Lia says, shaking her head. “He’s pretty hot. Why isn’t he in the running?”

“Because he’s Kane’s best friend,” I say, guessing. “And he’s more like a brother?”

“Well, he’s Kane’s bestie, but I wouldn’t call him a brother,” Maggie says with a frown. “By the time I was old enough to find Cameron attractive, he was off with the military. I don’t know him that well.”

“Then why isn’t he in the running?” Joy asks again. “Because did you see his arms? Good God, those biceps are ridiculous.”

“Uh, ladies, he looks suspicious,” I say and laugh, watching as Cameron narrows his eyes at us, clearly suspecting that something’s up. “Staring at him while we talk isn’t exactly incognito.”

“He’s not the one to give me orgasms,” Maggie says again, shaking her head woefully. “He doesn’t stick around for long.”

“All the better,” Lia says with a grin. “You can take him for a test drive, and then when he leaves, there’s no harm, no foul.”

“You have a point.”

“I don’t think we were striving for orgasms tonight,” I say, trying to be the voice of reason.

“I’m totally getting some,” Joy says and pulls her phone out of her pocket. “In fact, I’m gonna text Jace right now and give him a heads-up.”

“Oh, fun,” Lia says, reaching for her cell. “I’ll do the same.”

She holds the phone out and puckers her lips, snaps the photo, and sends it on to her husband.
