“Now that you mention it,” Maggie says, still eyeing poor Cameron. “He is hot. Maybe all I need is a one-night stand to work off some of this aggression.”

“He looks like he could give you some amazing, rough sex,” Joy says.

“Maeve hasn’t said anything,” I point out, watching the other woman as she nibbles on her lip.

“Do you have a crush on Cameron, Maeve?” Maggie asks her sister.

“No. Definitely not. I’m trying to be Switzerland over here. You’re a grown woman. I have no opinion.”

“That’s no fun,” I say.

“It’s all you’re going to get from me,” Maeve says.

“I’m gonna go talk to him,” Maggie says and sucks down the rest of her drink. She slides from the booth, flips her hair over her shoulder, and walks across the bar to where Cameron’s sitting.

We watch in fascination as Cameron turns to Maggie and smiles. She says something, and his expression turns from friendly to hot lust in about a millisecond.

“Oh, he’s interested,” Lia says. “Did you see how his entire body just went on red-alert?”

“Damn hot,” Joy mutters. “Holy shit.”

He shakes his head, and Maggie laughs, resting her hand on Cameron’s shoulder.

And then, to our utter shock, he takes her hand, kisses it, and then stands and walks her right out of the bar.

“Uh, guys? Maggie just left with a dude.” I stare at the empty seat where Cameron was just sipping his beer. The glass still mostly full.

“With Cameron,” Maeve whispers, just as shocked as I am.

“Well, then.” Lia swallows. “Looks like Maggie might get that orgasm, after all.”

“Wow,” Joy says. “You guys, I’m so impressed. It takes balls of steel to do what she just did.”

Suddenly, Jace and Wyatt come walking into the bar and head straight for our table.

“I didn’t know you guys were coming,” I say.

“We came to collect our women,” Wyatt says with a soft smile for Lia. “We figured they’d be good and buzzed by now.”

“I’m super buzzed,” Joy agrees. “And I’m ready for some orgasms.”

Jace’s eyebrows climb into his hairline in surprise. “Well, that sounds like a good plan.”

Lia and Joy wave at Maeve and me and then follow their men out of the bar.

“It’s just you and me,” Maeve says on a sigh.

“What’s your story?” I ask, realizing that I don’t know much about Maeve. “No guy in your life?”

“Not in a long time,” she says. “I’m busy with work and with this big family of mine. In case you haven’t noticed, they’re a lot.”

“I get it.” I clink my glass to hers. “Family can be demanding. I have a big, needy family of my own.”

“But I love them.” She sighs. “I think I’ll head home and call it a day. Do you need a ride to Kane’s?”

“She doesn’t.”

My head whirls at the sound of Kane’s voice.

“I didn’t even see you there.”

“I’ll see you both later.”

Maeve leaves, and Kane kisses my hand. “Where did everyone go?”

“Wyatt and Jace came to pick up the girls. Maggie left with someone.”

Those amazing green eyes whip to mine. “What did you just say?”

“Don’t freak out. She’s safe.”

“Who?”

“I shouldn’t tell you.”

“You’d bloody well better tell me.”

“She hit on Cameron. And they left together.”

Kane’s jaw drops. He blinks rapidly and then shakes his head.

“Let’s go home.”

“You’re not mad?”

“I don’t know what I am. At the end of the day, she’s an adult, and it’s none of my business.”

He licks his lips, shuffles his feet, and then mutters “bollocks” as he takes his phone out of his pocket and taps on the screen.

“You’re carrying your phone.”

“And it’s a damn good thing I am so I can text Cameron and tell him not to act the maggot or I’ll kill him. I don’t care how skilled he is.”* * *“So, we’re taking a road trip,” I guess as Kane steers his beautiful Porsche onto the freeway, headed away from the airport.

“Yes,” he confirms and glances in the side mirror before changing lanes. “We’ve about a four-hour drive ahead of us, but there’s no better way to get there.”

“I like road trips,” I reply, settling into the buttery-soft leather seat. “After Lia was able to finalize her divorce and close up her life in LA, I flew down and drove back to Seattle with her. The moving truck was a few days ahead of us, but we had all of her valuables in her SUV, and it only took us two days to make it back to Seattle.”

“I didn’t realize she was married before Wyatt.”

“Yeah, she was married to a massive douchebag. He was such an ass. Controlling. Mean. Mocked her career choice, even after it started bringing in a lot of money, and she started seeing some success.”

“It sounds like he was jealous,” Kane says, disgust heavy in his voice.

“Oh, for sure. He just couldn’t deal. Lia kept a lot of what happened to herself, mostly because she didn’t want to burden the rest of us. And I think also because, when you’re married, you feel like you have to take your spouse’s side. Because of that, she withdrew from us when she was married to that asshole.”
