“Does it matter?”
“What a silly question,” she scoffed, without taking her eyes off the computer screen. “What was his name again?”
“I’m not telling you.”
“Reed… Reed um… Denver?” Megan guessed, frowning with concentration. “No, that’s not it. Reed… Donaldson. It started with a D; I know that much.”
“Will you stop?”
“No,” Megan said firmly. “So you might as well just tell me his name because I’m going to figure it out eventually.”
I sighed in frustration. “It’s too damn late for this.”
“So the sooner you tell me, the better,” Megan said, with a wide smile.
I groaned noisily. “Reed Davis.”
“That’s it!” Megan nodded, as she typed in his name. She stared at the screen for a few seconds. “Is he the founder of Free Bird Publishing?”
“He’s the one.” I nodded, in defeat.
Megan clicked on a link, and the page began to load. I had visited the same page when I had just taken the job as Jenna’s nanny. There was a large and clear picture of Reed on the site, and it captured part, but not all, of his rugged handsomeness.
“Whoa!” Megan said, with wide eyes as she saw his picture for the first time. “Is this your boss?”
I didn’t even bother looking at the screen. “That’s him.” I nodded.
Megan turned around, grabbed a cushion from the sofa and threw it at me. “Hey,” I objected. “What was that for?”
“Why didn’t you tell me your boss looked like a modern-day Greek god?”
I laughed. “Because it doesn’t matter.”
“So you admit, you find him attractive.”
I sighed. “Well, yeah; I mean, I am only human, and he’s a handsome man.”
“Total DILF,” Megan said, giving me a wink. “And young; how old is he?”
She turned back to the screen and scrolled down. “Fuck, he’s only thirty-six. And he’s got this really successful publishing firm that he built on his own from the ground up.”
“You already knew that.”
“Yes, but somehow it’s more impressive now because I know how good-looking he is.”
I laughed. “You are ridiculous.”
“And you are so into this guy,” Megan said, pointing a finger at my face. “Look at that blush on your cheeks.”
“Will you stop?” I said. “It’s never going to happen, okay?”
“Why not?” Megan asked. “He’s single, you’re single. I see no problem there.”
“Except for the fact that I’m his daughter’s nanny?”
“All I’m hearing is that you get along with his daughter. It’s like he’s interviewing you for the job of ‘mother.’”
I rolled my eyes. “You need to sober up now.”
