“Taylor couldn’t have possibly known either… could she?”
“That’s a question you’d better ask her,” Frank said.
He looked like he believed she knew though, and I started to have serious doubts. And then something pricked at the back of my mind, and a memory came screaming back to me. I remembered talking to Taylor about my father. I had been telling her about one of his common threats, and she had gone quiet for a little while. Then she had asked me what my father’s name was.
The memory wasn’t wholly clear, but I remembered enough to know that Taylor definitely knew my father’s name. Which meant… she knew who I was. My mind didn’t know how to respond to this information. It felt like I was in the twilight zone for a second.
“Uh… Reed?”
“Give me a moment,” I said, holding up my hand.
I turned my chair towards the windows and stared out at the New York City skyline. If she had known all this time… how could she have kept it a secret from me? This was not a small thing. I thought about all the times we had discussed our pasts, and all the times Taylor had said nothing to me about this. It made me wonder: what else could she be keeping from me?
