Reed nodded. “Then I forgive you.”

I smiled. Then I leaned into him and kissed him softly on the lips. When we pulled apart, Reed was smiling too, and his expression made me curious.

“What?” I asked.

“Nothing,” he said, with a shrug. “I was just thinking about how strange and unexpected life is. My father was a bastard and a son of a bitch. But in an odd way, he brought us together.”

“I’ve thought about that too,” I admitted. “It’s such a strange coincidence that I would even answer your profile… of all the other profiles on that site.”

“If there is even such a thing as a coincidence.”

“My friend Megan, she believes there isn’t. She told me that fate was what brought us together. She felt that fate was telling us that we were meant for one another.”

“What do you think?” Reed asked.

“I think it’s a romantic notion,” I said. “And I’ve always considered myself a realist. But lately, I’ve been thinking there’s nothing wrong with being a romantic; you get to believe in happy endings.”
