Whatever he wants, he can have. I give myself to him freely. I never imagined I’d come here to Chicago for a new job and end up finding the man of my dreams.

When Cooper comes, I feel his cock bucking inside me as he ejaculates over and over. He continues to thrust, gently now, as if eking out every last bit of pleasure. When it stops, he rests on me, crushing me into the mattress, but I don’t mind one bit. I could lie like this forever, all night long. I don’t ever want to separate from him.

Finally, with a long, drawn-out groan, he carefully withdraws and moves to sit on the side of the bed. I turn over to watch as he removes the condom and ties off the end.

“You okay?” he asks gruffly.

“Yeah. More than okay.” I reach out to stroke his hot, sweaty back. He’s still breathing hard. I want to tell him to come back tome, lie down with me. I want him to hold me. I need to be close to him.

I envision the two of us sleeping all night in this big bed, wrapped in each other’s arms, our legs entwined. Maybe we can go a second round later after he catches his second wind. In the morning, we can sneak down to my apartment before Shane and Beth get home and grab some breakfast.

Cooper sighs heavily as he scrubs his hand over his trim beard. When he says, “It’s getting late. You should go,” it’s like he threw ice water in my face.

“What? You want me to go?” It’s only eleven. I feel like I’ve been kicked in the gut.

“Yeah.” His voice drops an octave. “I can’t risk Beth and Shane coming back early and finding you here. You understand, right?”

“Yeah, sure.”No, I don’t fucking understand!

I slip off the foot of the bed and scramble madly to find my clothes and pull them on. There’s a deafening roaring in my ears, and my fight-or-flight response has been triggered.

Definitely flight.

I can’t get out of here fast enough.

He rattles off the code for the private penthouse elevator. “You can take it down to your floor. I figure you’ll need the number pretty soon as you’ll probably be coming here soon enough to pick up or drop off Beth. Just remember, don’t say anything about us. She doesn’t know.”

His supposed adopted daughter doesn’t even know he’s gay? Damn, he’s so deep in the closet, not even this girl he supposedly cares so much about knows the truth about him.

Not bothering with my socks, I shove my feet into my shoes and head for the elevator, not stopping for a second to tell himgoodnightorgoodbyeor evenThanks for the fuck; have a nice life.

On the ride down to my floor, I’m painfully aware of the fact my ass is burning. I can almost still feel him inside me. He was a lot to take, and I didn’t mind at the time, but now I see everything in a different light.

He was transparent, I’ll give him that. He never once lied to me or promised more than he was willing to give. I can’t accuse him of that.

No, he was upfront about it.

I was the stupid fool who thought—hell, I don’t know what I thought. That we’d connected so beautifully he’d surely change his mind? That he’d fuck me and think,Wow, this guy is amazing! I want more with him.

No, he was honest, and I was a stupid-ass fool.

I inhale deeply through my nose and exhale through my mouth, over and over, as I try to keep myself from puking.

Because I feel sick.

And dirty.

And used.

He couldn’t get me out of there fast enough.

He never once lied to me. I can’t accuse him of that. I was just too gullible to listen to what he was saying.

Chapter 12 – Sam

When the elevator reaches my floor, the doors open, and I stare at the empty corridor. It’s eleven-thirty. Probably everyone is in bed. But there’s no fucking way I’m going to my apartment right now. I won’t be able to sleep. I can’t even stand to be with my own thoughts.

I hit the button for the fitness room, and the car continues down. I remember the woman at the front desk saying it’s open 24/7. Right now, I need physical activity. I need to run myself into the ground. I need to punish myself physically to the point I’m exhausted and can’t think anymore.
