“IS THAT LEVI out there?” Slade came up beside me where I stood by the wall of windows trying to understand what exactly I was seeing, and as I tried to wrap my brain around it, I came up with absolutely…nothing.

“Oh my God, it is.” Slade chuckled and elbowed me in the side. “You getting a look at this or what?”

Oh, I was getting a look at it, all right. I’d been getting a front-row view of Levi Walker getting hit on by some brick wall of a guy, ever since he’d walked out onto the dance floor looking sexy as hell and totally off-limits.

I’d been waiting for Levi to arrive for what seemed like hours. I had no idea how long it’d actually been with the copious amounts of alcohol everyone had kept sending my way. But the second our illustrious manager had set foot inside the club, my Levi radar had gone off and I hadn’t been able to tear my eyes away from him since.

He knew it, too.

Levi had thrown back more alcohol in the last thirty minutes than I’d seen him drink in all the time I’d known him. And as though he were out to prove a point tonight, namely that the attraction he was feeling for me—and he was definitely feeling it—didn’t exist, he’d latched on to the first tree trunk who asked him to dance.

“Dude,” Slade said, trying to get my attention, but there was no way I was taking my eyes off what was happening on that dance floor. “Is he plastered? I mean, he looks kinda wobbly on his feet, no?”

I stepped away from the crowd to take a closer look, and Viper and Halo sidled up beside me.

“What are we lookin’ at?” Viper said, as he slung his arm around Halo’s shoulders.

Slade gestured to the dance floor and, helpful as ever, filled my pain-in-the-ass best friend in. “Levi. Bumpin’ and grindin’ on some dude out there.”

“You don’t say?”

“Yeah, man,” Slade continued. “I don’t know what got into him tonight, but looks like our manager is getting his freak on.”

Slade’s words made my gut tighten. I didn’t want to imagine Levi getting his freak on with anyone but me. But at the same time, I didn’t want the guys talking about him behind his back—not that he could see us with that behemoth standing between him and us.

I glared at Slade. “You’re a gossipy little shit, anyone ever tell you that? He’s just dancing; there’s no harm in that.”

“I don’t know about that,” Viper said. “His hands on that guy’s ass makes me thinketh he wants a lot more than a dance tonight.”

“Viper…” Halo said, but that just made Viper chuckle.

“What? I mean, it’s obvious he’s looking for a good time. And it’s not like a better option has shown up.”

I whipped my head to the side to pin Viper with my best death stare.

“When are you gonna get over the fact he said no? Get the fuck over it and go and try again. It’s not like you to give up so easy.”

“Viper,” I growled. Jesus, he had a big fucking mouth.

“Wait…” Slade said. “You and Levi?”

“No,” I said between clenched teeth, because honestly, the fact that the answer was a no was becoming more and more frustrating with every damn word these idiots were uttering.

“He made a move and Levi rejected him,” Halo said, and I wasn’t at all surprised that he knew the details, considering Viper couldn’t keep his mouth shut to save his fucking self.

“Oh, burn, bro.” Slade nodded and looked back out to the dance floor. “But it is your birthday…”

“Yeah,” Viper added, and shoved me in the shoulder, urging me toward the floor. “So stop standing over here like a pussy and go and get what you fucking want.”

I looked back to where couples of all persuasions were busy getting down and dirty to an extra-filthy song, and thought fuck it. Viper was right. It was my goddamn birthday, and if I wanted to dance with Levi, then I was going to go over there and dance with him.

As I weaved through the hot, sweaty bodies moving in time to the throbbing beat, I kept my eyes on the target and saw him grab mountain man’s ass a little tighter.

So Levi wants to grind on someone tonight, does he? I could work with that. I decided a sneak attack would be my best bet and made my way around the two I couldn’t tear my eyes off.

I circled them like a shark might its prey, and as I came up behind Levi, I clenched my fists by my sides. The tree had his big paws all over Levi’s tight, lithe body, and I was done.

“’Scuse me?” I tapped Levi’s shoulder for extra emphasis just in case he wanted to pretend not to hear me. But when he glanced over his shoulder and saw me standing there, I was more than a little happy to note those usually irritated eyes were wide with shock.
