“No one’s ever had to.”

Huh. Was he admitting I was the only one he’d ever been tempted to break his rules for? I could work with that.

“I need to get back to the party, and so do you,” Levi said, straightening his shirt and running his hand through his blond hair. With one final look, he walked off, leaving me hot, hard, and still horny as hell in a private cabana meant for two.

I definitely hadn’t expected Levi to shut me down tonight, and while part of me felt frustrated by the rebuff, another part of me was waking up to the challenge Levi had just put forth.

He wanted to play by the rules, huh? Well, there was one thing I knew about rules: they were made to be broken.

Present day

“HELLO? EARTH TO Kill.” Viper snapped his fingers in my face, effectively shutting down my thoughts as I blinked him into focus.

Sitting up, I shoved his arm away. “What?”

“You plan on staying here or do you maybe wanna get your ass on the plane?” When he inclined his head toward the open door leading out to the airfield, I realized I was the only one still sitting in the private lounge’s club chairs.

With a curse, I rose to my feet and grabbed my bag before following Viper out to where the private plane we’d chartered for our international tour waited. I couldn’t tell if I’d fallen asleep or just completely zoned out while we’d been waiting, but either way, I couldn’t shake the taste of citrus that lingered on my tongue from the memory of Levi’s mouth on mine. God, he’d been fucking delicious, but true to his word, he’d gone back to being mister professional, not so much as looking in my direction.

Well, that was a lie. There was looking, and a whole lot of it, but if he’d been in any way affected by what’d gone on between us after our first night on the Corruption tour, he didn’t show it.

And didn’t that just bust my balls.

“Hey.” Viper grabbed my wrist, forcing me to face him. “What the hell’s crawled up your ass lately, huh?”

I rolled my eyes and went to turn away, but his grip tightened.

“Or maybe the problem’s nothing has been up your ass, am I right?” Viper winked, and I finally pulled myself free.

“Go fuck yourself.”

“I don’t need to. I have Angel.”

“Jesus.” Running my hand through my hair, I sighed.

“Been a little tense between you and Levi since Atlanta. That the reason for these moods you’ve been gracing us with?”

“Nope.”

Viper narrowed his eyes. “Bullshit. You’ve gotta get over it, man. Move on.”

“I’m over it.”

“Really?”

“The fuck do you care?”

“That,” he said, pointing at me. “You’re not usually such a surly bastard, but you’re snapping at everyone—especially Levi.”

“So?”

“He shot you down. It happens. Well, not to me, but—”

Crossing my arms over my chest, I glanced up at the waiting jet. “You done?”

“Hmm, let me see…” He laughed. “You know, maybe I should go thank him for knocking your ego down a notch—”

I wrapped my arm around Viper’s neck in a headlock and walked us over to the stairs. “That’s enough outta you. Keep it zipped.”

Laughing, Viper shrugged out of my hold. “If he’s not interested, you don’t have to be celibate—”

“Oh, he’s interested,” I said. “He’s just playing hard to get.”

As Viper snorted, the man in question stuck his head out of the plane and glared our way. “Are you two planning on joining us, or do I have to cancel the Australian leg?”

Damn. Even shooting daggers our way, Levi Walker was a handsome motherfucker. Perfectly manicured scruff lined his strong jaw, and though his hair was dark, he kept the front a white blond that he artfully arranged in a way that showcased how stunning he was. Always put together, always wearing something bold no one else I knew could get away with—today it was a lavender button-up paired with dark purple velvet pants.

“Yeah, he looks like he’s interested, all right,” Viper whispered before elbowing me in the ribs and heading up the stairs.

As I watched Viper go, my eyes drifted up to Levi, then his focus landed solely on me, and when he noticed I was standing in the exact same spot I had been a second ago, he raised his left eyebrow as if to say, Get your ass up here, now.

I sauntered toward the stairs, taking my sweet time, not about to let Levi think he had any say whatsoever when it came to my behavior. But as I got to the top, I stopped and looked him in the eye and realized what a fucking lie that was.

Who am I trying to kid? All my moods lately, which had really just been one—pissy—had been because of this guy, and all because he’d shot me down. Not only shot me down, but shot me down after one of the most spectacular kisses of my life.
