“I do.”

“Stop fighting so hard, bro. You take it all so seriously: your job, your love life—well, when you have one. You were the one who told me we don’t need anyone’s permission to go after what we want. So take your own advice. You’re not gonna fuck this up.”

When he clamped his hand down on my shoulder, I looked at him and nodded. “Thanks, Li. I needed to hear that.”

“Anytime.” He lifted his glass to his lips and frowned when he realized it was empty. That frown deepened when he looked up and down the bar, finding it empty as well. “Where the hell did he go?”

Shrugging, I said, “I’ll be right back. Grab me another whiskey sour, would ya?” I stood up, and as I went to leave, I ran smack into the missing bartender. Or, rather, I ran straight into the tray of shots he’d been carrying.

I cursed, staring down at the liquor streaking my shirt and pants as Liam burst into laughter behind me.

“Graceful, bro. Hey, maybe Maverick will wanna lick it all off?”

I shot him a glare over my shoulder, but what he’d said wasn’t a bad idea.

Great. Now all I was going to think about all night was Killian running his tongue all over my body.

Suddenly, I couldn’t wait to get upstairs.

Thirty

Killian

Fallin’, fallin’, fallin’ for you

From the second I saw you it was all I could do

To keep my distance and try to forget you

But I’m fallin’, fallin’, fallin’ for you…

I tapped my pencil against my chin as I stared at the notepad in front of me. For the last two hours I’d been playing around with a tune I couldn’t get out of my head. It was a slow melody that reminded me of a heartbeat, and it wasn’t lost on me why I suddenly had a desire to sit down and write again—Levi.

The idea had come to me earlier this morning when we’d been stretched out in his bed, Levi curled up into my side, his cheek naturally resting against my chest and his fingers trailing patterns all over my skin.

God. I was in so deep with him. So fucking deep that the second I’d left his suite and entered mine, I had automatically gone for my notepad and guitar. Emotions, whether good or bad, were always the catalyst when it came to my music and writing. Nothing was more inspiring than hating someone, or in my case love—

Yeah, “deep” might be a bit of an understatement. But I wasn’t stupid. I knew what I felt, and considering I had never come close before, it didn’t take a genius to know why I’d sworn off every single person alive the second Levi entered my life.

But it was way too early in this relationship to go there. Fuck, I’d only just managed to convince him to go on a date, kiss me…sleep with me. God forbid I slip up and actually say that out loud to Levi. The guy would run for the fucking hills. I needed to slow my roll, think of this as the beginning, something casual—something exclusive, but casual. That seemed more to Levi’s liking, right? Right.

Tossing my pencil on the notepad, I took the pick from between my lips and began to strum again. As my fingers found the chords I was looking for, I began to hum along as the melody became more familiar. Then I closed my eyes and added the lyrics, the song a sexy ballad that would make hearts melt all around the world, the second Halo added his angelic voice to it.

Just as I was getting into the rhythm of it, a brisk knock on my door interrupted my train of thought, and I groaned and glared at the offending noise. Getting to my feet, I didn’t bother putting my guitar down. I walked across the suite, my goal to see who was on the other side and send them on their way. Then I’d get right back to creating.

With my guitar in one hand, I reached for the handle with the other, and when I pulled the door open I found the one person I had no problem stopping for. Hell, the one person I had no problem doing anyfuckingthing for.

But something wasn’t right. Levi was supposed to be hanging out with his brother for the next few hours. I’d reluctantly let him go when he told me it was kind of rude to fly Liam all the way out to another country and then ignore him.

But there was something else wrong with this picture, beyond the fact that Levi was at my door instead of downstairs at the bar, and that would be the way his bright yellow button-up was clinging to his gorgeous chest—not that I was complaining.

“Well, hi there,” I said, holding the door open as I ran my eyes up and down the stunning man opposite me.
