“Youwere her problem, Gigi, but we just took care of it. Now, if you don’t mind, I’ve got some more work to do.” I focus again on my inbox while she stands there staring at me. She finally stomps off when she realizes I’ve got nothing else to say to her.

By the time the movers carry the last box across the lawn to our garage, the sun is shining brightly. Another crew will arrive after lunch to prep Lola’s bedroom. They’re going to paint and install a new closet system with lots of shelving and rods at different heights. They’ll move everything up from the garage once it’s ready. She won’t lift a finger. And she’ll never have to set foot in that house again.

I lock the garage and double-check the security panel before heading inside.

Lola’s laying on Jude’s bed, motionless beneath the blanket. She’s still in the same clothes from last night. Jude’s on one side, Reid on the other. Both are fully dressed and half-asleep.

I kick off my shoes and sit on the end of the mattress. Reid grumbles something under his breath. He moves closer to Lola, leaving a space between him and the edge of the bed.

“There’s room for you here, too, okay? Just don’t fucking spoon me.”

It’s not comfortable. The mattress dips unevenly beneath our weight, and the room is too warm.

Then she exhales softly between us.

I’ll sleep on a bed of rocks if it means being close to her like this.

Chapter 33

Lola

Iwake up before the others. My eyes open easily, my mind is quiet and my whole body feels lighter than it has in months. I glance at my watch and see that it’s 9:30 a.m. It’s Sunday and I finally get a day off.

All three of the guys are somehow stuffed into Jude’s bed with me. We’re a mess of limbs, half-draped in the sheets. Reid has his face buried in my neck and an arm draped over my middle. Jude’s legs are tangled with mine and he’s pressed in close enough that I can feel his breath on the back of my shoulder. Miles is further away, behind Reid, but I love that he’s here too.

I don’t want to move. I’m worried if I do it’ll break this magical spell and snap back into real life.

So, I stay in bed as long as I can. Unfortunately, my bladder has other ideas.

I shift my legs free from Jude’s and nudge Reid’s arm off my stomach. No one fully wakes, though Miles makes a soft sound as I move to the end of the mattress and stand. I grab Jude’s sweatshirt from the chair and pull it over my head as I quietly step out into the hallway.

I quickly take care of business and then head toward the kitchen. I’m dying for some coffee.

There’s some noise in the garage that has me a little on edge. I pause, listening. I can hear something being dragged across concrete. I know all three men are upstairs, so it’s not them.

I’m praying it’s just Frankie. Miles mentioned last night that she was helping to coordinate my move. I should just check but I really don’t want to.

I grind the coffee and start the pot, keeping an eye on the door to the garage. The machine clicks on with a low rumble. It’ll be a few minutes, so I lean against the counter and look out the back window.

Despite the stress of the studio and the fact that I still have to deal with my ex-roommates at some point, my body feels relaxed and settled.

It doesn’t mean everything’s fine and dandy. But I feel mentally better than I have in a long time. I don’t think I realized just how much my living situation was weighing on me.

The machine hisses behind me, indicating it’s done. I grab a mug from the cabinet and some fancy cashew milk creamer out of the fridge.

I pour the coffee and take a slow sip, even though it’s still too hot. I don’t care enough to stop though. There’s a jingle playing in my head that has only one lyric:coffee.

I hear another creaking noise from the garage and then a sharp bang makes me jump, almost spilling my coffee. I grip the counter and set the mug down.

The door to the garage swings open and Frankie steps through, holding a clipboard and looking unbothered by the fact that she almost gave me a heart attack.

“Oh my god.” I place a hand on my chest. “Do youwantme to die?”

Frankie just lifts a brow and lets the door shut behind her. “You die and I’m pretty sure Miles will have me researching how to make necromancy a real, actual thing. So, no. Not ideal.”

I exhale hard and grab my coffee again. “You could knock, you know.”

“I could.” She walks past me and flips open her tablet without sitting down. “But then I’d miss the look on your face, and honestly, that was worth it.”
