She turned to look at Colin, and he was gone.
Chapter 20
We may look old and wise to the outside world.
But to each other, we are still in junior high school.

“Iwas suffering from an acute case of WWTD,” Harley explained. “I know you would have been mature and responsible.” Instead of punching Frank in the throat.
But she was getting the distinct feeling Teagan didn’t entirely disapprove of the throat punch. After that BS Frank had pulled, Harley was surprised her sister hadn’t grabbed him by the nuts and dragged him to the door.
“Really? I know one thing I wouldn’t do. I wouldn’t let my ex-brother-in-law in and pour him a drink and wake the girls up at midnight,” Teagan said, standing in the kitchen, lips pressed into a pissed-off line.
“You know, you might want to relax a little or your face might freeze that way.” She tapped a finger to her sister’s jowls and Teagan smacked her hands away. “Ow! And yes, that’s exactly what you’d do. Literally, I was sitting there with Maddie trying to give you and lover boy some space when Frank knocked and I asked myself, ‘Self, what would Teagan do?’”
“Cute.” Her tone said she found not one iota of the comment cute.
“And do you know the answer? You’d lie down like a doormat and let Frank in. So I did WTWD and let him in. As for waking the girls? That was Frank.”
“You could have told him it was past bedtime.”
“First, not my place, Second, not my place. And third, he made that clear by pointing out I was just their aunt and had zero authority when it came to his girls.”
“I’m sorry about that. He had no right to say that. You want to know WWT 2.0 do? She’d tell him waking the girls was a hard no.” Teagan walked over to rest a hip on the opposite counter. Harley was on the island—literally and metaphorically—crisscross applesaucing while eating ice cream straight from the tub. “But you should have called me.”
“I sent over Maddison, who was kind of like a carrier pigeon with a key to Colin’s place.”
“Yeah, that was kind of a shitshow. Since you were giving us space and all.”
Harley grimaced. “I was a little freaked about not screwing up, and I guess I kind of screwed that part up. But you know what I didn’t do, Sis? I didn’t ignore the guy I just had sex with for my ex.”
Dipping one finger in the ice cream, Teagan held another finger up, the middle one.
“Yeah, I imagine that’s what you were doing. Either he was so bad you were running for the woods, or he was so good you were running because you’re scared.”
“That’s not what happened.”
Harley licked the scooper clean and pointed it at Teagan. “That is so what happened. You’re talking to the queen of running.”
“The only running I did was into my mooch of an ex. Thanks for that.”
“Oh no, you don’t get to blame this on me!”
“Why not? You’re the sitter.”
“You’re the one who married Frank.”
Teagan glared at her. “Only because I was too stupid to realize that, while a head-in-the-clouds dreamer seemed exciting, in reality he was a nightmare.”
“Are we talking about him or me?” Harley asked and Teagan shrugged. “Just remember it’s Harley 2.0 who’s saved your ass more than once in the last couple of months. Have you been sitting around just waiting for me to flake?” Harley worked really hard to keep the hurt out of her voice. “I have been nothing but supportive.”
“You supported me right into this disaster. You Hurricane Harleyed my life.”
“I’m going to put that nasty attitude in the delete folder and pretend it never happened,” Harley said. “Because how could your life possibly be screwed up? You have Nonna’s house, mom’s business, all those memories, and the perfect guy.”
“You had the same golden ticket. You blew it.”
