I lost myself in my movements, Luka, I had to get to Luka.
Each guard I killed, another one appeared, keeping me from closing in on him. I had to get to him. Life after life I took, my body on autopilot as I killed one guard after another, Nico and Kara fighting alongside me.
Finally, the last guard fell, and nothing stood between me and Keziq.
I let out another vicious scream as I leaped for her.
Keziq’s eyes flew open. She fell back, Luka’s body slumping to the ground as she scrambled away.
“Kara! Nico! Get her!”
I didn’t spare another look at Keziq.
“Luka!” I fell to my knees, wrapping my arms around his torso and pulling him into my lap.
“Luka.” I brushed his matted hair away from his sweat-soaked face.
“Luka, wake up.”
My chest heaved. “Please, wake up.”
I knew the effect Keziq magic could have on a mind. I still had nightmares about it.
I had to fight my way back from it.
He would too. He’d fight his way back. He’d fight his way back to me.
He had to. I hadn’t gone through all this for him to leave me.
His eyes opened as he drew in a breath.
“Lennox.”

“Are you sure you’re okay?”
“For the millionth time, yes, I’m okay.” I brushed Lennox’s hair back from her face before letting my thumb stroke across her cheek. We had returned back to camp awhile ago, after checking in on everyone after our return. Lennox had dragged me back to our tent and checked me over thoroughly, asking me over and over again if I was okay.
“You’re sure.”
“Lennox,” I brushed my lips over hers in the lightest of kisses, “I said I’m fine. When have I ever lied to you.”
“When you didn’t tell me you were the one I was going to have to marry in this arranged marriage.”
“That was a lie of omission.”
“Still a lie,” she argued. “You didn’t tell me Keziq was the witch you tied your life to.”
“I told you as soon as I figured it out, still, not a lie.”
She raised a single brow.
I slid my hands up her thighs, letting them rest right above her ass. “One time a male keeps information to himself and he’s never to be trusted again?”
She rolled her eyes, “I never said that…”
