“Really?”
She nodded. “Yes, really. I’ve never thought about kids, but when you paint that picture—I want that.” She bit her bottom lip between her teeth.
“But I think I’d want three, like I had. Or maybe even four. I guess it doesn’t matter that much—I’d want them to have siblings, though.”
Warmth radiated in my chest. “Me too.”
I pulled her closer and placed a kiss on her forehead. “We’ve never gotten a chance to talk about this—about the future we want. The future we deserve. That we’ve earned.”
She tensed in my arms. “You have earned this future—whatever future you want—you’ve earned it, Lennox.”
She was quiet for several moments, her fingers scratching lightly over my leg.
“A life—a life with you, that’s what I want,” she said finally. “Whatever that might look like—that’s what I want. A life.”
I tilted her chin toward me, placing a soft kiss on her lips before pulling back and looking into her eyes—the emerald pools glistened.
“I promise you’ll get it, Lennox.”
Her thumb brushed over our mate mark on my palm, causing the skin to tingle. “Until the stars turn to dust, Luka Rossi.”

LENNOX
Something I was learning in my first-ever war was nothing ever went as planned.
Not that anything in my life ever went according to plan, but still, once it would be nice.
Our first attempt at killing Keziq had been a failure. We didn’t even get to attempt to kill her, that was only part of the problem.
I had called everyone together early this morning to discuss strategy since we didn’t get anything accomplished yesterday.
I wasted no time jumping right in once everyone arrived, Hecate included. I had a feeling I was going to need the original witch today.
“What’s the plan for killing Keziq? How do we cut the thread between her and Luka?”
Hecate and Luce shared a look, but neither said a thing.
“Speak.” I didn’t care if I was being too harsh. I needed answers and I needed them fucking yesterday.
“Does the spell require Ichor magic?”
“Yes.” It was Luce whofinally spoke.
“Fuck.” I slammed my fist on the table. “Then we need a new spell. One that won’t put your life at risk.”
“That is the least of your worries girl,” Hecate spoke slowly, her red eyes turning toward me. “There is something else the witch heir isn’t telling you.”
“Luce?” I was getting sick of all her fucking secrets.
“Should you tell her or I?” Hecate raised a brow, causing the wrinkles in her forehead to deepen.
“Luce?” She remained silent, her arms crossed over her chest, looking anywhere but at me. Maybe she was still pissed at me about what I said last night, if she needed to have it out we could, but right now I needed her to be an active participant in this conversation.
“Her magic has not yet returned.”
Our collective gazes flew to Luce, who openly glared at the original witch.
