He smiled and nodded his head. “What are you doing here, Mattie?”
“I told you.”
He shook his head, his eyes asking for more.
“I-I missed you,” I choked out. “I’m sorry about our fight—”
He closed the small gap between us and crushed me to his chest, lifting my feet slightly off the ground.
“I’m so sorry,” he whispered into my hair.
“I’mso sorry. I should have talked to you sooner.”
“I should have given you a chance to explain. The last thing I wanted was for you to leave, and I thought maybe—it felt like I was changing your mind or something. When Bev told me about your replacement, I just saw red and acted like an idiot.”
“I wasn’t going to leave,” I said.
He grimaced. “I fucked this all up.”
“I should have been honest with you.”
He leaned down, and his lips brushed mine softly, his fingers tangled in my hair. After a minute, he released my mouth and kissed my forehead.
“The night after our fight, I realized how stupid I was being. I went to your apartment, but you were already gone.” He looked pained at the memory.
“I didn’t exactly want to stick around after that,” I admitted.
“I figured as much.”
I tightened my arms around his torso and inhaled his scent that I missed so much.
“Why didn’t you call me?” I whispered.
“I thought you were done with me.”
“I thoughtyouwere done withme.”
He laughed. “Not even close.”
Releasing me, he took one hand and pulled his phone out of his pocket. My brow knit in confusion as he scrolled for a moment before turning the screen to me.
I leaned in closer to see what he was showing me. It was a confirmation for a flight to Orlando arriving on Christmas Eve.”
Tears welled up in my eyes. “You were going to come see me?”
He chuckled. “I thought maybe if I made a grand gesture at Christmas, you might be more willing to give me a second chance. You love your movies, after all.”
My cheeks hurt from grinning so hard. “So, you’re not done with me then?” I asked, pinching his side.
“Definitely not.” He kissed my forehead again. “But we should probably work on our communication skills if this relationship is going to go anywhere. Can’t have you catching a flight every time I mess up because, let’s be honest, it’s going to happen again.”
“I think that can be arranged.”
He glanced down at the carry-on suitcase that sat forgotten next to me.
“That all you brought?” he asked.
I nodded. “I wasn’t exactly sure how this was going to go.”
