He nods in understanding and it hits me for the first time that he was suffering just like me. Any effects I was feeling, he was possibly feeling double since I wasn’t shielding him at all.
I grab his hand and lean in closer, so it’s just between us, “I’m sorry I put you through that, I didn’t know.”
He gives me a nod and a small smile, “it’s okay, you didn’t know. We will figure it out now.”
And I may not be able to read him but I have a direct connection to his feelings now and it’s so clear to me how much he feels under that shell. He’s excited, I’m guessing for us to figure things out and he’s content, maybe because I’m here? I would have never known if I didn’t feel it myself.
I give his hand a squeeze then turn back to the room. They’re all watching our interaction and their faces clearly show they’re happy about it. How did they hear what I said?
Then it hits me, I know they’re supernatural but I don’t really know what that means or what they can do.
“Can you guys tell me more about what each of your abilities are and more about what being each of your races means?” I ask.
They all look a little shocked and happy, probably that I’m asking.
“Of course we can! Let’s have breakfast first then we can go over it all later,” Nic responds for the group and they all nod their agreement, including me.
Jay comes over with a plate of eggs and a side of bacon and toast that he sets in front of me. When he leans in to set it down he nuzzles into my neck making my laugh and push him away. He seems pretty content when I turn to thank him.
“Thank you! Have you always known how to cook, Jay?”
His smile gets bigger, “ya, I really enjoy cooking. This is nothing, you’ve got to let me make you a big, outrageous meal sometime.”
I smile back, “that sounds great!”
“Soon?” He asks hopefully and I find myself agreeing right away.
“Soon sounds great.”
He drops a kiss on my lips before walking back to the counter to finish serving up some plates.
The best part is, I didn’t feel any jealousy through the bond from Jeremy and that settles something in me.
The guys all grab their plates and we settle in around the table for breakfast.
“Shoot, is today Monday?” I ask.
Jax smothers a laugh, “yes it is, but don’t worry our class got canceled today, I guess the professor is sick. We would have woken you if you slept too long and we still had class.”
My adrenaline settles down and I can’t believe I completely forgot to set an alarm. That’s really unlike me but I guess I’ve had a lot on my mind.
“We still have math later, though,” Kiran complains and I pat his hand in sympathy.
“We can all go together, it’ll be great,” Jay adds.
We all dig into our food and eat with gusto. Even if it was a simple meal, Jay did an incredible job. I really will have to take him up on his offer for an outrageous meal.
Just when we are finishing up and I’m about to demand we talk about their powers, my phone starts ringing. I pull it out to see I have a couple missed calls and texts from Anna. I instantly feel guilty, I didn’t tell her I was leaving, let alone that I would be gone all night.
“It’s Anna, I’ve got to take this,” I say hopping up and leaving the room while hitting accept.
“Anna, I’m so sorry!” I say before she can dig into me.
“Aly! You had me so worried, where are you?” She shouts back.
“I’m… at the guys,” I hesitate because I don’t know how she’s going to feel about that.
“You made up with them?” She asks.
