Nic volunteers, “so I’m a mage, which is something I’m sure you’ve seen in media but you can’t go based off that. I can cast spells or sometimes use concentrated magic to make things happen. If a spell is too much for me, I can use powerful objects or things to enhance my powers, like Jeremy’s blood.”

I nod, acknowledging what he had to do to save me, when the memory spell was too much.

“I’m not naturally gifted with things like enhanced hearing, like they are, but every morning I cast a few spells to enhance my senses. It helps me be more on top of things. You can use spells for almost anything it’s just a matter of how powerful you need to be.”

“Can I see some?” I ask.

“Sure,” he says then he lifts his hands and does a small motion, muttering something and a ball of light forms in his palm. It’s beautiful and other worldly, and it’s just a ball of light. What would seeing something more complex be like.

“Have you ever used magic on me besides the memory spell?” I ask.

Nic is sheepish and a little guilty but not much, “well, when that guy hugged you in front of us, we all went a little crazy. You have to understand, supernaturals have crazy instincts in general but especially when it comes to their mate. We are all territorial and want to protect you, just not as extreme as Jay,” he says.

Jeremy tightens his arms around me at the reminder. Jay nudges my hand, clearly wanting me to resume petting him. I oblige but bring my attention back to Nic.

“So what did you do?” I ask.

“I gave a stronger than usual static shock between you so he would let you go, I imagine you don’t remember it because of the spell,” Nic says and he’s right I don’t.

I have a million more questions but first I want to learn the basics about all of them.

“Hey guys, I hate to cut this short but we actually need to leave for class, unless we are skipping?” Kiran asks hopefully.

But I don’t want us to all miss class and I especially don’t want to, this can wait.

“No, we are going. Will you tell me the rest after?” I ask and they all confirm they will.

I hurry up and get dressed for the day, the guys already being ready, and we head out.

“I call sitting next to Aly!” Jay says as we walk across campus to get to class. I’m standing next to Nic so I see him roll his eyes at Jay’s antics. I’m not going to step in though, I know Aly doesn’t like having to choose who she sit next to. This saves her from that, and that makes me happy. Plus, I usually have a class alone with her before this so as far as I’m concerned I’m already winning.

“Fine, but we better let Jeremy have her other side or math class might see a real life demon for the first time,” Nic says.

I turn towards Jeremy who is standing very close to Aly and watching everyone who walks past us. So far, I don’t think Aly has felt the instinct to protect their bond, that we warned her of, but he clearly is. He’s agitated, clenching and unclenching his fists, as he glares at anyone who dares to get too close.

“What do you look like in your demon form?” She asks him, I’m guessing trying to distract him from his glaring but also out of curiosity. I’m sure she will want to see all of our forms now that she saw Jay’s wolf.

“I’ll show you sometime,” he answers distractedly and without taking his eyes off our surroundings. Being around all these people really has him worked up. If it keeps going like this, I have a feeling class will go terribly.

She turns to Nic, “when will our bond settle down?”

“Well, it depends on the couple and how long it takes them to form a solid relationship. Since you and Jeremy didn’t have a relationship before the bond formed, I think it’s going to take a lot longer,” he answers.

“But, if you were to mate with someone you had a stronger connection with, it would take less time for the bond to settle down,” Jay adds eagerly, probably thinking about himself.

We make it to class and Aly takes her usual seat in the middle, with Jeremy on one side and Jay on the other. Kiran and I sit next to Jay with Nic next to Jeremy. Hopefully being so surrounded will help Jeremy calm down. I feel bad for him, this seems more intense than usual. I wonder if it’s more intense because they are fated mates not just chosen mates?

A few people wave over at us as they pass, which isn’t unusual. Even if they aren’t waving at Aly, Jeremy growls a little under his breath. One glance at Jeremy right now and anyone would go running, even in his completely human form. Not that he is normally friendly but now he’s downright hostile.

I pull my laptop out and open what I need for class, completely ignoring my surroundings. Which is how I don’t realize that mean girl from the library is coming this way until she’s stopped right in front of Jeremy. What’s her name again? The incident in the library was a close call, we heard what was going on with our enhanced hearing and Aly was clearly confused how we stepped in so quickly. I was confused why she didn’t question us further but now I guess we know, it was the memory spell.

I immediately tune into my empathy gift to check on Aly and before the girl even opens her mouth something in her snaps and a hot rage surges through her system. I can feel her need to fight and cause pain. The current violence in her is unlike anything I’ve felt with her before. I hear a soft snap and see the pen in Aly’s fingers snap, causing her hand to be covered in ink but I don’t think she notices, she certainly doesn’t look down. She’s too busy glaring death at that girl.

Aly is clearly feeling the need to protect her bond with Jeremy. Why did this girl have to pick today to challenge Aly again and approach one of us? And why in the world did she have to approach Jeremy?
