I must cry myself to sleep, because when I wake up, I can tell it’s light out.
“Morning, babygirl.” Jon kisses my forehead.
“J went to get you some as he put it real coffee and not hospital swill. He should be back soon with it. The nurse said the doctor ought to be in soon to assess you and let us know if we can take you home. Wanted to talk to you about what that looks like.”
“You mean me going back to my place?” I’m pretty sure I heard some growling when I asked that. Actually, I think I heard two different growls.
“Beautiful, no that’s absolutely fucking not what we meant. You’re coming home, toourhome. You’ve been there over a month now and now you’re pregnant. You need to be there.”
Jon
I could tell the moment Ror told Jane she had to come home with us, the argument was on. Our woman definitely doesn’t like to be told what to do, well outside of sex that is. It’s nice to see that Ror is not exempt from her wrath. I can usually tell when Juan is about to set her off and it seems the same with Ror, but damn it if I can’t seem to keep myself from getting in trouble with her.
Question is, do I interrupt and tell her the idea I’ve got for her place or do I let him get a talkin’ to for a bit. Shit, he didn’t save me none when she lost it on me about those damn throw blankets, I’ll let him get it for a bit.
“What Ineedis for the men I love to understand this is my decision and that maybe asking me instead of going all caveman and demanding would be a better way. Yes, I’m pregnant, but that doesn’t mean I’m an invalid.”
I swear I can see him physically back peddling.
“Now, beautiful, you know that’s not what I meant. I just mean not only do we want you with us because we love you, but because we want to be there for every moment of this pregnancy and our baby’s growth and development.”
I watch Jane melt at what Ror just said. The fucker is smooth I tell ya.
“You three are going to be great dads, I know it.”
“And you’re going to be an amazing mom. You already take care of us and everyone in so many ways, beautiful.”
I suggest my idea for her place, and she thinks that Max would be the best fit for her house and is going to offer it to him tonight.
???
After the doctor finally comes in and clears her to open her eyes, he advises that he’s going to get the paperwork going so she can be released and go home.
As soon as we get her settled at home, we’re going to deal with the fucker, Cain. It’s past time for my brothers and I to extract some wrath upon the devil.
While we’re waiting for the doctor or nurse to come back in with her discharge papers, I can’t help but notice the family Jane’s surrounded by. Not only does she have me and my brothers, but Nicky, Ry, Max, and both Mads and Kierstie stopped by this morning before they headed to our place to get things ready for her to come home. Ma and Pa are sitting with Ben and Mike. Even her brother Logan is here, having got in late last night. This room is full of love for our woman, and yet I know she doesn’t understand just how special she is to all of us. Squeezing her leg, she looks at me in a way that I know I will never stop falling in love with this woman.
The door opens, but it’s not the doctor or nurse, but an older woman who looks like she just ate a bagful of lemons. I can feel Jane’s body tense when she sees who’s just walked in the door.
Jane
The last person I needed to see today just walked in the room like she’s better than everyone here and has better places to be.
“Mom, what are you doing here? How did you even know I’m in the hospital?”
“Because, dear daughter, the hospital called me as the next of kin since you still haven’t come to your senses and begged Jesse to take you back. He’s the only man who’s willing to deal with you. Have you gained weight? You’re looking a bit puffy there, Plain.”
I swear the growls in this room are so numerous, it’s like they’re in surround sound. Before I can respond to Mommy dearest, Dad, Ben and Logan all stand at the side of my bed.
“Even after thirty years, you still are as unpleasant as ever, little sister.” A look of surprise comes over Mom’s face momentarily before she plasters on her patented look of indifference.
“Still slumming it, I see, brother.” I can tell the moment she sees Dad and Logan. Confusion and anger come over her made-up face.
“Linda, it’s been more than ten years and yet I could go a lifetime without seeing your face and be happy.”
Ignoring my dad like she’s done for most of my life, she looks at Logan in confusion. “What are you doing slumming with these people Logan? I—”
“Shut up. Mom, just stop it with your snobby, holier-than-thou shit. I came here because my sister, yourdaughter, was taken and hurt. I came because she’s family and I wanted to make sure she was okay and not just to save face, which I know is why you are here. You only worry about you and what someone can do for you. You didn’t want either of us and showed us that all the time growing up, Jane more so than me. But I knew you only had me because Dad wanted a kid. Now, you only want me around so you can brag to your country club group about your son in college. Well, newsflash, I’m not going any further in collegeandI’m moving here and joining their MC.”
