But equally furious.

Maybe… maybe more furious.

However, my stomach chose this moment to growl, disagreeing with my priorities.Eat first. Then chastise the Hell Fae Prince,it seemed to be saying.

“Where am I?” I demanded before reaching out to take another grape from the bowl in Melek’s lap.At least he has clothes on.

Of course, his expression seemed to indicate that he would much rather remove his clothes and join me under the sheets.

At one point, I would probably have been okay with that—just to see what he hid beneath those sexy suits of his.

Right now, though? No. I wanted nothing to do with this asshole.

Except for maybe garnering some answers.

And eating all those grapes. I grabbed another with the thought, my eyebrow arching upward as I waited for him to reply.

“The Midnight Fae Realm. Specifically, the Midnight Fae Palace.” He paused for a moment. “It’s riddled with power. Can’t you feel it?”

Yes, I thought, my jaw clenching. It feels like ants crawling all over my skin.

“Why am I here?” I inquired instead of confirming his comment.

“You would need to ask our dear Warden that question,” he murmured, glancing over his shoulder at the living area beyond the bedroom. I appeared to be in an overly large suite, one wall framed by windows that opened to a balcony outside.

The moon in the sky gave me pause. What time is it?

“I would give him another hour or so of rest,” Melek went on. “He’s going to need it.”

I frowned once more—the look one that would probably become permanent if I didn’t start making other expressions soon—as my mind slowly pieced together the events of last night.

My dream.

Waking up to Ajax.

Collapsing.

Him shadowing me…

“Am I here for interrogation again?” I asked slowly, taking in the ornate room once more. It was certainly an upgrade from the dungeon.

“No, I believe Ajax’s intent is to rescue you,” Melek mused, his multicolored irises flashing. “He wishes to keep you safe from Ty. A bold move, I must say, if a bit hasty. But the objective is respectable.”

He handed me the bowl of fruit.

“Here, eat. You’ll need your strength as well. Because it won’t take Az long to find you both, especially with how quickly I managed to track you.” He cocked his head to the side, causing his blondish-brown hair to fall over his expressive eyes. “I wonder how you’ll convince him not to drag you back to Ty. It’s a shame I won’t be able to stick around to observe.”

He vanished with the words, leaving me scowling at his disappearance. “Typical,” I muttered, eating a grape. “Always speaking in riddles and never giving me worthwhile information.”

“Well, now that’s just not true,” he replied, his voice making me jump as he reappeared beside me with a tray in his lap. “Everything I tell you is worthwhile. It’s not my fault you fail to interpret it.” He held up a cup of coffee. “Here.”

I really wanted to refuse him on principle, but the delicious scent curled around me in hypnotic swirls, making my mouth salivate.

Chocolate. Whipped cream. Coffee.

Delicious.

I snatched the mug and took a careful sip to test the temperature, then groaned as it soothed my sore throat—something I hadn’t even realized was scratchy until swallowing.
