Gabe kept a tight grip on my hand and nodded. “Okay, yeah, I think I will,” he said eventually.
I wasn’t sure how long we stayed like that, but it felt like our walls were coming down. Maybe at the end of this, regardless of how the building sale turned out, I’d have a new friend in Gabe.
Because I liked him more than I wanted to admit.
The conversation turned lighthearted after that. And he did have another brownie after all.
He left just before midnight, and as he drove back to Hal’s, all I could think about was that I wanted more time.
More time to get to know him. More time to have these conversations. More time to tell him what I liked about him.
