“Oh!”
Yeah, I’d taken notice of her signature scent.
“The chocolate is body spray. When I go out like this, I think something more sophisticated is needed,” she explained.
I shook my head. “Nah. It smells good, but the chocolate is all you.”
“You think so?”
“Definitely.”
“I’ll keep that in mind,” she said, blushing.
I changed the subject, catching her off guard. “You were about to kiss Steel.”
That shit had shocked me when I walked in, seeing her all in that nigga’s personal space, about to bless him with something that I was starting to feel like was mine. It wasn’t a question, so she didn’t offer an answer. But when I kept staring down at her, she nodded.
“Why?”
“Just to show him I appreciate all he does.”
“He knows it. You don’t have to put your lips on him.”
A small smile played around her mouth. “Why do you even care?”
I slid my index finger under her chin and tilted her head back, making her meet my eyes.
“Just don’t, Farrah,” I warned.
“Mekhi—”
She was ready to argue, as usual. I stopped her with the smooth stroke of my mouth against hers. She never fought me on this. Instead, she parted her lips and my tongue eased between them. It was a quick kiss, little more than a tease, but I felt her softening even more against me. Then the song was over, and I was leading her off the floor. She was silent until we reached our table. Riah handed her a glass and her little bag.
“Your phone been vibrating,” she said, before turning her attention back to the crowd.
Farrah took a sip of the Rémy, then set it down, ignoring my scowl. I wanted to know who had been calling and texting her. Probably that weak ass nigga who thought he was her boyfriend. She needed to set him straight, immediately. For now, I needed to know if my team had noticed anything. Steel shook his head when I asked him.
“A lot of niggas were looking at her, but nothing out of order,” he said. “I’on know what the guys on the floor saw, though.”
“I’ll check with them. You know where Seth went?”
“Shorty up here wasn’t having his nonsense, then Elena walked through.”
I laughed at the fact that Mariah saw right through his ass. I had no doubt that he was really attracted to her, but Elena had that nigga’s nose wide open.
“If I take Farrah home, can you make sure her cousin makes it safely?”
His eyes moved over to Mariah, and I saw something flash in them for just a second. Shit, it was hard to ever know how Steel felt, but if I wasn’t mistaken, that was a look of interest.
“As long as I ain’t stepping on Seth’s toes,” he finally said.
“I’on think that nigga has a chance in hell with her.”
He nodded then and I walked back to the table.
“You ready?” I asked Farrah.
Her gaze darted to her cousin. “We came together, so we leaving?—”
