I narrowed my eyes. “You sure about that?”

“Yes! He didn’t tell me that. He had me follow her a couple of times, but not last night. All he told me last night was that we finally had our chance.”

“So, he probably had somebody else following her?”

“Yeah.”

“Was he by himself when he met with you last night?”

“Yeah.”

“He say anything else about her?”

“Nah, not to me! I swear.”

“You—”

I stopped as my phone buzzed again. Looking down, I saw that Steel was calling. I answered only to be pissed off again.

“Man, you need to get here ASAP! It’s some shit brewing in your house with all of this damn estrogen, and I’m not fucking with it, my nigga. Hurricane Gillian and Tsunami Farrah have met, and the shit is not pretty. Move your ass,” Steel warned.

I wasn’t even in the mood to deal with this shit, but it had to be bad if Steel was talking that much. Both my mother and Farrah had strong personalities. If I didn’t get there soon, I knew it was really going to get ugly. I looked up at Luca as I disconnected the call.

“Put him up. I’ll be back to handle him,” I said, standing up.

“You good?” asked Seth.

“Yeah. Just some shit with Farrah and my mother.”

He let out a low whistle. “Those attitudes?—”

I nodded, making my way to the front of the building. I was almost to the door when Seth called my name. I turned around and waited.

“Tex called. That nigga Trell was definitely at the Meridian. There was a room registered in your mother’s name. Whoever was in there checked out an hour ago.”

Fuck!

“Y’all are crazy,”Mekhayla said, laughing as her mother glared daggers at me.

I had tried to retreat to my room, but was that bitch happy? Oh, no. She’d come knocking on my door, demanding I call Mekhi to see if I could get through to him. He wasn’t answering for her, and she acted like it was my fault. She was standing in the hallway outside my door, hands on her hips. “I’m not crazy. I just need this… girl to do as I asked,” snapped Gillian.

“Umm… I’m not a girl and I’m not calling him. Steel told you he was busy. You just gon’ have to wait,” I said as calmly as I could.

I guess I could have been real with her and let her know Mekhi had taken my phone to make sure it had no trackingdevices or tracing apps on it since Trell had my number, but that was none of her business. Plus, I had questions about this bitch. Sitting in my room, I remembered that her name was one Trell had spoken. She might be involved in all this. I didn’t give a damn if she was Mekhi’s mama. If it came down to me or her, her ass was toast.

“Look, I don’t know who the fuck you think you are?—”

“I’ve told you who I am?—”

“Ay! Ay! Ay! Fuck y’all got going on?” Mekhi’s voice suddenly boomed from the top of the stairs.

My blood was pounding so hard in my damn ears that I hadn’t even heard him come in. I whirled to face him, my face twisted up as I was about to cuss his ass out.

“Uh-uh, who you talking to like that?” his mother asked him, but her frown shifted into a small smile as she made her way toward him.

They gave each other a quick hug then Mekhayla launched herself at him. One of his rare smiles crossed his face as he hugged her tight for a minute.

“What y’all got going?” he finally asked her.
