Her wolf whined in her head, knowing the majik was greater than anything they’d ever dealt with.

“What choice do we have? We can’t just let her die.”

Erin tried to focus on commanding the majik, willing her mind to expand.“I can do this.”

The darkness ebbed closer to her position. Her breaths caught in her throat, nearly choking her. Dizziness swept over her, and her limbs began to tremble under the weight of the majik.

“Erin, you can’t do this alone. Take my hand. The power is too much for one person to handle. Honey, you have to trust me.” Brenna rushed to her daughter’s side. As soon as Brenna was close enough, she reached out and grabbed Erin’s hand.

Once the connection was made with her mother, Erin felt the majik inside her level out. Her power, along with her mother’s bound together, slowing the billows of evil majik surrounding them.

“How are we supposed to use this majik? What do we do with it?” Erin yelled.

“I’ve seen this majik only a handful of times in my entire life. My mother once used it to contain an evil warlock who’d attacked the coven. She wielded the majik like a sword, slicing into the dark majik, cutting down the warlock.”

“But if we do that, wouldn’t our majik attack Adalyn since it’s technically coming from her?” Erin wouldn’t take the chance if it meant putting her cousin at risk. She didn’t know why she felt so protective over the girl, but she did. It was almost as if there was something or someone driving her to protect Adalyn—no matter the cost.

“You’re right. Shit. Now what? It’s getting closer to us. We can’t let the dark touch us. It’s either her or us. We have to decide.” Brenna looked hopeless.

“Stay back!” Erin shouted when she saw her mate standing in the doorway. A series of images flashed through her mind.

“Mom, clear your head. We need to picture the gold majik surrounding the dark majik. The gold majik has to fill Adalyn’s body. We have to direct it to do that. It’s the only way we can all survive and break the hold Mariska has on her, but we’re running out of time. We have to do it now.”

“How do you know it will work?”

“I don’t know. Somehow, images appeared in my mind of what needs to happen. I don’t know where the images came from. I just know it’s the only way we can win.”

Brenna nodded and sucked in a deep breath. “Ready when you are.”

Erin mouthed the wordsI love youto Lucas and cleared any remaining thoughts she had out of her head.

“I guess it’s now or never.” She closed her eyes, and just like the images that had appeared in her mind, Erin pictured the gold majik radiating from her body and slowly encircling the dark wisps of majik that reached out for them. When the dark touched the gold, they momentarily pulled back before falling to the floor like a pile of ash.

Erin and Brenna gasped when they saw the effect of the gold majik.

“Holy shit! We can do this,” Brenna cheered.

“Damn right!” Erin smiled. This time, she forced the gold majik farther away from her body, pushing to see how much of the dark majik she could destroy and how quickly. With each pulse of majik that left her body, piles of ash fell to the floor in waves. One after another as Erin and Brenna worked their way closer to Adalyn.

“Do we go fast or slow sending the majik into Adalyn?” Brenna asked.

“I have no idea. The vision didn’t show me that.”

“I say we go fast and get it over with. What’s the worst that can happen?”

“Mom! We could turn her to a pile of ash! Let’s start with her feet and work our way up.”

Brenna nodded. “Probably a better idea.”

Erin tightened her grip on her mom’s hand and whispered, “Please don’t turn my cousin into a pile of ash.”
