Chapter Nineteen

Adalyn’s head pounded, her ears rang. Every muscle in her body felt as if she’d gone eighty rounds in the ring with Anderson Silva. Pain was a real thing and not her friend. Her corneas felt as if they’d been burned by the glaring brightness of the lamp as she cracked her eyelids open.

“What the hell happened?”she asked in her mind, hoping her witch or even her wolf would answer.

Neither did.

“Adalyn! Are you okay?”

Someone asked, but she had no idea who.

“Focus,”she told herself.

Easier said than done. A wave of nausea caused her to lurch forward and smack her head against something hard.

Not something…someone.

“Wade,” she whispered.

He mouthed something, but she had no clue what he was saying. Her hands flew to her ears as the ringing intensified. Her head felt like it would explode into a tiny million pieces if the ringing didn’t stop soon.

The shadow of a woman filled her peripheral vision. She felt something warm press against her head, the ringing slowly faded. The fog filling her mind started to dissipate. Seconds later, she felt a little more like herself, but something was still wrong.

“Drink this.”

A tiny vial of purple liquid appeared in front of her face. She tried to reach for it, but her arms wouldn’t cooperate. It must have looked like she was swatting at an insect buzzing around her face.

“Is she okay?” someone asked.

“No. She needs to drink this, or she can kiss her majik goodbye forever.”

Adalyn leaned her head back and opened her mouth. She’d heard the warning loud and clear. Majik began to fill her body the moment the sticky purple liquid hit her tongue. Memories flooded back into her mind.

“That fucking bitch!” Adalyn shot from the chair, surprised when she saw her room filled with a full audience.

She had some serious explaining to do by the look on Rafe’s face.

“We are so fucked,”her wolf said.

“Welcome back.”Adalyn twisted her head from side to side, getting a feel for how much the whole ordeal had drained her powers.

“You were close to death. The elixir brought your majik back, but not to full power. You’ll need another vial in a few hours, and you’ll need lots of protein for your wolf.”

Adalyn’s stomach chose that moment to growl. “Thanks.” She glanced at Erin. “I’m not sure what you did to stop my mother or how you did it, but I want to thank you for saving me.”

Erin leaned in and gave her a hug. “Thankfully, I had lots of help. I’m just getting used to you being around. I’m not ready to lose you.”

“I’m also not ready to lose you,” Brenna said, giving her a gentle hug.

Adalyn’s mouth popped open, but words failed her. Moisture pooled in the corners of her eyes and she quickly wiped it away. Her cousin and aunt had shown her more kindness and love in the short amount of time she’d spent with them than her mother had ever shown her.

“Thanks.”

“Oh, my god! Rafe. Our father is alive!”

Rafe was in her face the next instant with a death grip on her throat.

“Rafe! Stop!” Grace screamed.
