"No worries." The woman smiled. "I'm Maryn, Jack's sister."

She spun in her seat. "Sister? You never told me you had a sister."

He grinned down at her. "Then we're even."

"Ha! I'm pretty sure you knew about yours."

His smile widened. "Oh, yeah, I knew about mine." His gaze moved to Maryn. "I've known about mine for far too long."

"Up yours, big brother." Maryn gave Jack the bird before moving over to the bar.

"We should probably keep our little sisters apart as much as possible. I'd hate for Maryn to corrupt Penny," Jack said under his breath.

Alyssa didn't care how much Jack's sister corrupted hers; the more people Penny had in her life the better, as far as she was concerned. Then again, if they were going to get a divorce once the courts permanently placed Penny with her, keeping them apart now might be the best thing. "That shouldn't be a problem. Maryn doesn't live in Sunnyville, does she?"

"No." Jack frowned. "She lives here."

She couldn't decipher the look that passed across his face and she wasn't sure she wanted to. It didn't look as though he was happy about where his sister lived and while she would normally ask about it, right now she had more important things to occupy her.

One thing at a time. She'd married Jack to make sure Penny stayed with her until she was an adult, and for now that was what she would concentrate on. She'd leave the other complications their impromptu marriage brought them for later.

"Excuse me, Keaton, right?"

"Yeah." The man across the room looked at her with a raised eyebrow.

"Tell me what it is you're going to do about Penny's guardianship."

Jack didn't know how Keaton managed to do it but he was extremely thankful his friend hadn't revealed information about the Townsend Group. It helped that Lys only had one thing on her mind—how their marriage would help award her permanent guardianship of Penny.

"So, what you're saying is we'll file in my name only, using my married status and name, and add Jack only if necessary?"

"Yes." Keaton nodded. "We can and will file a joint petition if we need to, but I don't think it will come to that. I'll contact your lawyer tomorrow. I think it's best if he remains lead on this. I'll step in when required of course, although I'm not expecting to have to do that."

"Will I need to sign more papers? I've got this week off work so if I need to drive into San Francisco to meet with my lawyer or the judge I can."

"I'll have everything prepared today before you return to Sunnyville and I'll courier them to your lawyer overnight."

"Oh." She turned to Jack. "What time are we leaving here?"

He shrugged. "Up to you. We can fly out after dinner or we can sleep here and fly out early in the morning."

"But you have work tomorrow."

"Yes, I can sleep before or after we fly home." He hadn't slept since yesterday morning when he'd gotten six hours after his shift.

Lys frowned at him. "When did you sleep last?"

"Yesterday. After work."

"You should sleep before we go then."

"Why?"

"Because I'm not letting you fly before you do. You've been up over twenty-four hours now."

"I'm fine."
