"You might feel fine but sleep deprivation is nothing to fuck around with, Jack. No. We're not going anywhere until you've slept." She crossed her arms and glared at him, her chin tipped in that way he'd almost begun to enjoy.
"Fine. I'll get a few hours after lunch." Speaking of…where the hell was room service? "Roark, how long did they say the food would be?"
"Should be here any minute."
"Maryn, you want to check on that for me? Keaton, can you get those papers here by five?"
"Yep. I'll head to the office after we eat." He looked around. "I doubt there's a printer in here."
"No, not in the room but the suite has printing services and access to the hotel business center if you want to use that."
"That's okay, I'd rather not risk anyone seeing…" he trailed off, his gaze shifting to Lys.
"Right. Okay. Let me know when you're on your way back here."
"Sure." He glanced at his watch. "By the time I get the documents drawn up and printed, it will probably be a couple of hours. I should be back here around four. That work?"
"Yeah, we'll be here."
"Wait. I thought I would take Alyssa and Penny out and show them around. You can get some sleep while we're gone," Maryn offered.
"Oh. Yes. Can we? Please?" Penny asked, her gaze bouncing between him and Lys.
Jack didn't like the idea of Lys and Penny going out without him, especially with Maryn, mainly because neither of them were low-profile when it came to Vegas locals. If she ran into anyone they knew, the efforts they were going to to keep his marriage a secret might be for nothing. Then again, if he said no, what excuse could he give? "It's up to your sister," he told Penny.
"I don't know that there's much for a teenager to see…" Lys said.
"Sure, there is," Maryn said. "We can walk the Strip or head down to Fremont Street."
"Can we check out the Stratosphere? I want to go on the rides—"
"No!"
Jack grinned at Lys's outburst. The first time he'd discovered Lys was afraid of heights, he'd thought she was lying. She went up in a helicopter and plane regularly, after all. Except it hadn't been a lie. She was genuinely afraid when it came to 'grounded' heights as she called them. "You won't get Lys up there. But if you really want to try them out, Penny, Maryn's the one to go with."
"Jack. I don't want her going on those things," Lys argued.
"Why? Maryn will be with her. She'll be perfectly safe."
"I love riding the Big Shot." Maryn turned to Lys. "If you want, I can take Penny up while you do some shopping."
"Please, please, please, please, please, please—" Penny chanted, her hands in a prayer position in front of her.
"Jeez. All right already." Rolling her eyes, Lys turned toward him. "I guess you'll have some peace and quiet to get that nap in before dinner."
Pulling his wallet from his back pocket, he said, "Here, let me give—"
"Don't you dare give me money, Jack."
He had two options, and judging by the look on Lys's face only one choice would go well. He loved her independence except at times like this. And with all the trouble that had followed Penny to her doorstep. For once he'd like her to just accept his help, his kindness. He wasn't trying to buy her or trap her or require anything in return, and he definitely didn't look at anything he offered as a payment for something she might do. "Can't I at least pay for food and drinks while you're out?"
"No." Her arms were crossed, her eyes narrowed, chin tilted at that stubborn angle that made him want to kiss the stubborn right out of her.
Before he could argue the point or give in, the suite's doorbell rang.
"That'll be room service," Roark said, his hand snapping out to land on Penny's shoulder keeping her in place. "Dash will get the door."
Giving him a smug look, Lys said, "Food's here. We won't need to eat while we're out."
