Sliding the ring onto her finger, he blew out a breath and when the gold band was snug against her knuckle, he looked up. “Wait. You’re pregnant? We’re pregnant? We’re having a baby?”

Laughter echoed behind him and someone said ‘now he gets it’ but he couldn’t tell who because blood was rushing through his ears.

Grinning he leaned up and pressed his lips, first to Mad’s forehead before moving past him to Lory. Lips to hers he said, “You already made me the happiest man in the world, now you’ve made me the happiest man in history.”

“I had no idea you were so sappy,” Ry said. “Ouch. What was that for?”

“Because you’re an idiot.” Maz laughed. “And you’ve had plenty of sappy moments yourself.”

“I didn’t say it was bad. Just that I had no idea Jake had it in him.”

He ignored the pair behind him. “When?”

“Whenever. I don’t want anything big. Or fancy.”

Jake looked over his shoulder, his gaze searching for Jack. “Any chance we can take your plane—”

“Say no more.” He pulled his phone from his pocket. “You want to do this now or…”

“Now. Today.” Jake got to his feet and lifted Mad from Lory’s lap. “Let’s go. Momma and Daddy are getting married.”

“Now? Like, right now?” Lory asked when he grabbed her hand and pulled her to her feet beside him.

“You said whenever. Whenever is now.” He shrugged. “Well, it’s when we get to Vegas anyway.”

“Oh, you could do what Jack and I did,” Alyssa suggested. “Although it might be a bit squished in a convertible with all of us.”

“Everyone is coming?” Lory asked when he snuggled her close.

“Why not? Ry and I are off for the next”—he checked his watch—“forty-two hours. Jack can get us there and back before our next shift.”

“You’re crazy.” She nudged him with her shoulder. “But I love it.”

“And I love you.” He dropped a kiss to her lips. Placed his hand on her stomach. “Both of you. I can’t wait to meet this little one.”

“I love you, Jacob Conners. More than I can ever say. And for the second time ever, the fallout from my stepsister is something good. First Maddox and now us. Without her, we wouldn’t have either.”

“You and Mad are the only reasons I don’t wish I never met her. No matter what she did, she gave me two precious gifts. And you, my beautiful bride-to-be, are going to give me so many more.”

“Ah, I hate to break up this love fest but can we maybe postpone the wedding for a day?” Maz asked.

“You aren’t,” Ry growled. “How long?”

“Hmm… Most of the day,” she said sheepishly. “But I think we need to go to the hospital now.”

“Dammit, woman!” Ry swooped forward and picked up his very pregnant wife.

“Put me down, you buffoon.”

“Not until we get to the hospital. Who’s driving?” he called out over his shoulder. “I’ve got a feeling we won’t make it in time.”

“We’ll drive,” Jack said. “That way you’ll have Alyssa on hand if the baby decides the back of my car is the place to make its entrance into the world.”

“We’ll bring Zane and your car,” Lory offered as they followed everyone toward the carpark.

“You okay with waiting,” Jake whispered.

“Yes. We’ll get married as soon as Mazey is able to attend.”
