I ignore the message and decide to just enjoy my time and my food with Genevieve.

Part of me wonders what she’d think if she knew the truth. That I’m barely scraping by, trying to make it work at a resort job while helping my high-ass dad pay his overdue bills that neither of us can afford. Can a girl like her really fall for a guy like me?

“Lunch is served! Burgers ala Derek,” Derek says interrupting our deep silence. He sets both plates down and my mouth begins to water.

“Thanks pal, these look delicious,” I tell him.

Genevieve sticks a fry in her mouth. She licks the salt off her fingertips and doesn’t even realize how hard she’s making it to sit still. If she keeps that up, I’ll be walking out of here with a hoodie over my lap.

“Thanks Derek,” she says.

Genevieve takes her first bite of the burger and she seems to love it.

“This is amazing! What’s his secret?!” She asks.

“No one knows. These burgers are honestly so good for no reason,” I tell her. “But Derek wants to become a professional chef so he is really good at cooking,” I add.

“He sure is! He should go on one of those cooking shows likeChoppedorCutthroat Kitchen,” she says.

“So I’ve told him, he just doesn’t think he’s good enough. He lacks confidence.”

“Oh, I’ll tell him he should do it. Maybe it will give him some confidence,” she says.

“You should do that, I’m sure he would love to hear any sort of praise,” I say.

I’m honestly lucky to have Derek as a roommate because he is so good at cooking. It just sucks that we don’t always have the extra money for groceries to make stuff. Our budget only allows us to get peanut butter, jelly, and bread; and sometimes ramen noodles. We live like college students and we aren’t even in college.

It’s only when Xander is working that we can get those extra ingredients for Derek to whip us up a feast.

Genevieve and I devour our burgers, I guess I was hungrier than I thought, but she eats most of the fries and I just snack on a couple.

I love a girl who isn’t afraid to eat. There are some girls who are just so embarrassed to eat in front of guys and I just don’t understand the logic behind it. It makes no sense to me. Why wouldyou be embarrassed to eat? Everyone has to eat. Might as well do it with other people to enjoy one another’s company.

I need to keep spending time with this girl, I need to spend every second I can with her until she leaves. Because if I don’t, I know I’ll regret it.

“So Genevieve, what are you doing the rest of your time here?” I ask her.

“Well, I planned on skiing, until I found out Lana isn’t a fan of the ski lifts so we are just relaxing and spending time at the spa,” she says. “Why? What did you have in mind?” She adds.

I like this girl, she gets straight to the point.

“I was thinking you and I could go riding again tomorrow, if you are okay with that?” I say.

“I would love that! Why don’t you come by the cabin tonight and we can talk more about it. I better get going though because Lana has been waiting for me since I left this morning,” She says.

“Oh of course! I’ll come by, say, sevenish?”

“Sevenish is perfect! Bring a friend for Lana please! Preferably the one that knows his way around a burger,” she says getting up from the stool. She puts her arms through the sleeve of her coat and thanks me for lunch and teaching her how to ride. She walks away and I can’t help but watch her. She is so addicting to look at.

It’s like a drug I didn’t know I needed.

Genevieve

This was an interesting day. I learned how to snowboard, spent more time with Aspen, had one of the best burgers of my life, and busted my lip. Overall, it was a pretty successful morning, minus the bleeding.

I text Lana when I get back in my car, but she doesn’t answer, so I assumed that means she’s at the spa getting another facial. Like she didn’t get enough facials last night. I check her location to verify and she is indeed there. Her and I have our locations for each other since we’re roommates. It’s kind of like we are each other's parents when we need to be. Making sure neither of us are ever kidnapped or getting into trouble. Well, mainly myself. Lana wouldn’t know where to find trouble if it slapped her across the face.
