Chapter 8
Lazarus~
As I sat in the corner of the room, it was getting harder and harder not to believe that this was something more than just a disturbed man.The way that Elisabeth and Bodhi were battling back and forth was both impressive and concerning.I also couldn’t help being impressed by her recount of the Archangels, daring Bodhi to correct her on any of it.
At any rate, even though this was Elisabeth’s show, Bodhi had mentioned me specifically in relation to her, so I was done sitting in the corner.Plus, hearing him describe my dreams had my mind reeling a bit.No matter what Elisabeth said, there was no way that this man could know the details of my nightmares, or that Elisabeth had been having the same kind of dreams.
So, I stood up, then carried my chair over to sit next to Elisabeth, and I was finally ready to ask my own questions.“Protect her from what?”
“Like the significant soldiers in The Bible, you also have noteworthy couples that made history in a way that the other couples hadn’t,” he said, not really answering me.“You have Adam and Eve, Abraham, and Sarah, Jacob and Rachel, Samson and Delilah, Joseph and Mary, and a few others.”
“What does that have to do with us?”Elisabeth asked, her voice tight.
Bodhi smirked at her.“You and Lazarus are that couple for what is coming.”
“But we’renota couple,” she pointed out.
“You are not a couple because he failed to secure the bond that night,” he replied evenly, referring to our one night together.“That is the only reason that you are not together now.He underestimated your beliefs, and you’ve no tolerance for those who do not take what you believe seriously, which is beneficial for the upcoming war, but proved to be an issue when you wouldn’t forgive him for handling you so dismissively.”
“It was a one-night stand,” Elisabeth insisted, and I felt her words like a brick to the chest.
“It was not, and you know it, Elisheva,” he reprimanded softly.“You felt it that night, and you still feel it now.Otherwise, you wouldn’t have needed to erase him from your life altogether to reinforce your stance against him.”
“I don’t know how you know some of the things that you know, but this can’t be real,” I said, pulling in all my years of training and experience.“It just can’t be.”
“Elisheva Batya translates into God’s promise and daughter of God, giving us the promise of God’s daughter, but do you know what Lazarus Copeland means?”he asked, though he didn’t let me answer.“Lazarus translates into my God is helper, and Copeland translates to owner of land, which gives us God’s help within all the land.Elisheva is the answer to the war between good and evil, and with God’s help-which is you-she can only do that with your protection.”
Elisabeth began shaking her head next to me.“No...no, no, no,” she replied firmly.“This is...this is absurd.Even if I did believe that you were an Archangel, it makes no sense that I’d be chosen for this quest. There are over a billion people in the world, many that are very devout in their beliefs and loyal to their religion...no way would God choose me.”
“And that is where most people get confused,” he replied, his voice as smooth as whiskey, his eyes still moving like hypnotic tools.“Devoting your life to religion isyourchoice, not God’s, what with your gift of free will. So, by definition, God’s chosen ones are whoHechooses, not the other way around.”
Elisabeth leaned back in her seat, eyeing him, more prepared for this argument than I’d ever be.“Maybe, but there’s another flaw in your claim.”
Bodhi arched a brow.“And what would that be?”
“You’re insinuating that Catholicism is the correct religion, and that’s not true,” she answered, and how the fuck she knew any of this was beyond me.
