“But you aren’t Catholic,” he countered easily.“You are a combination of two religions, two that are as old as time itself.”
“There are damn near twenty major religions in the world, including atheists, so it’s impossible to know which one is the divine one,” she fired back.“While Christianity is the most popular, that doesn’t mean that it’s the right form of worship.”
Bodhi’s eerie gaze looked my way.“You know, I thought that it’d be you who would need more convincing.”
“While I believe, I don’t believe blindly,” Elisabeth told him.“I also do not take kindly to others mocking my faith for entertainment purposes.Where’s your proof?”
“Proof that I am an Archangel, or proof that you are one of God’s chosen ones?”he asked, and I was still struggling with how he spoke so confidently about all of this.
“Both,” Elisabeth shot back.
“Because my eyes aren’t enough?”he challenged.
“Nope,” she quickly answered, dismissing their uniqueness again.
“You would like to see my wings, then?”
“That’d help,” I chimed in.
Ignoring me, he looked back at Elisabeth.“You know that I cannot do that here. Not only would the size of this room not be sufficient enough to house me, but you are too close to me.”
“Forget the wings,” I said.“Instead, tell us why Lissa is one of His chosen ones, and maybe you can also tell us how we’re expected to win...win this war that you’re talking about.”
Looking between us, he said, “When you both explored each other that night, you saw a couple of scars on her left ankle, and she explained them away as a pigment issue with her skin that had never bothered her enough to seek a dermatologist’s expertise, and because you’d had more pressing matters on your mind, you accepted her explanation without much concern.”
How could he fucking know that?
“It’s not a pigment issue,” he went on.“After a few dreams in, one of the soulless had tried to pull Elisheva further into the darkness, but you stopped him. However, that wasn’t before his touch marked her for all time, and she is the only person in existence that has the proof of evil branded on her skin.”
“Even if that’s true, that still doesn’t tell us how I’m supposed to defeat these forces of evil,” she bit out, her frustration shining through, the both of us no longer professional doctors of psychiatry.“It doesn’t tell me anything other than you have one hell of an imagination.”
“I will not be telling you that,” he said, making Elisabeth and I glance at each other quickly.“However, once you fully believe and commit to your destinies, at that time, I will tell you everything.”
“And what if I never believe you?”Elisabeth posed.
“Then Gabriel, Metatron, and Jophiel will join me in trying to convince you,” he answered, speaking easily as if we weren’t talking about Arch-damn-angels.
“Why those three?”I asked out of curiosity more than anything else.
“Jophiel is one of the angels of illumination, and it’s said that he can clear your mind, so that you can see the deeper meaning in certain situations or experiences,” Elisabeth answered.“Metatron is the scribe of Heaven, showing what is written in the stars, but he can also unlock your spiritual growth.”
“And Gabriel?”I asked, knowing that he was one of the most popular ones, but not remembering exactly what he did, which was shameful since I’d been raised Catholic.
“Gabriel is the big guns, and my guess is that he’d only show up if there was no other option,” she went on.“Gabriel is both God’s ear and voice, and he is considered the most powerful Archangel among them all.”
“Very good, Elisheva,” Bodhi remarked, a proud smile on his face.“You know us well.”
“I know what I’ve read,” she corrected.“And in everything that I’ve read, nowhere did it say thatIwas destined to save all of humanity.”
Bodhi’s eyes began to swirl again as he leaned forward, placing his arms on the table.“Because you believe that The Bible has been finished?Because you believe that all these years since that last day are not being recorded for all time?Elisheva, The Bible will never be fully completed as long as God continues to exist, and He willalwaysexist.”
“So, you’re saying that The Bible will never end, and that we’re just reading an...an installment of its first years?”I asked, having never given The Bible much thought beyond reading it once when I’d been a child.“That...that there will always be more?”
“If you think that Heaven has stopped recording miracles, then you are very mistaken, Lazarus,” he answered.“Spiritual history is happening every day, only you’ve all become so used to dismissing these phenomena that you fail to notice all that is going on around you.”
Pretty sure that he was calling us self-centered assholes.
“However, that is neither here nor there,” he went on casually.“I am not going anywhere, so take this time to discuss what all you’ve learned here today, and when you’re ready, you will know where to find me.”
