“This won’t be that time. I promise. Just take the damn test, Kitten. For me?”
“Fine. Wait outside.”
“I’ll wait here.”
“I’m not sure if you are aware of this fact, but I have to pee on this,” she says waving the pink and white box around.
“I’m aware of how pregnancy tests work. I want to be involved every step of the way.”
She huffs but does her business and sets the test on the counter.
“I want it to be positive,” she says washing her hands.
“It will be. I have a good feeling about it.”
“I am glad one of us does.”
She steps into my open arms. “Everything is going to work out, you’ll see,” I say to reassure her.
A few minutes later, we both look down at the test.
“It’s positive,” she shouts, jumping up and down in my arms.
“Didn’t doubt it for a second,” I say, kissing her upturned lips.
“I am so happy, Baby Daddy. Now, your nickname fits.”
“It always did, baby. Let’s go to bed. You can make an appointment with your doctor in the morning.”
“I can totally do that. I can’t wait to tell everyone. Shit, will this affect school?”
“I don’t think so. You’ll graduate a couple of months before you are due.”
“Excellent. I am so ready for the next chapter of our lives.”
“Me too. Is your stomach better? Need some Sprite?”
“Nope. I am good, just tired now.”
“Understandable. We will celebrate tomorrow.”
“Sounds perfect,” she says sighing. I lift my beautiful wife into my arms and carry her to our bed. “I am so happy. Thank you for impregnating me,” she says sleepily. I chuckle at that and kiss her again.
Once I am in bed beside her, her soft snores assuring me that she’s okay, I let my thoughts wander.
I want to be the best husband and father I can be. Eventually, I must fall asleep, because I wake up with the roosters. I ease out of bed, dressing in the dark. I grab a cup of coffee on my way out to my chores.
“Hey, Boss,” Cable says as I sit on one of the Adirondack chairs to pull my work boots on.
“Morning Cable. What’s up?”
“I need to leave early today.”
“Okay. Why?” I ask out of curiosity.
“Today is the day. I am going to claim my girl.”
“Good for you man. Good for you. Of course, take off whenever. Get one of the other guys to cover for you.”
