“And I am giving you everything you need to get the answers you want. It’s up to you to figure out what it is I’m telling you, and then decide what you want to do with that information.” I poured her a glass of wine, and then one for myself.”

“You knew I was an...incest baby?” she nearly whispered.

“It’s a safely guarded secret in your family, but yes, I know. Your parents’ are brother and sister.”

“How can that not bother you even a little bit?”

I wanted to tell her it very much bothered me. Her family was a sick bunch of new money parasites. However, that wasn’t my Elena’s fault. We were all children of a union, a specific coupling that resulted in two plus two equals four. Whether it be from love or hate, moral or immoral, none of us personally asked to be made.

She looked at me with so much emotion warring in her eyes.

My beautiful anjo was beginning to drown in herself. It was such a lovely sight.

“You are not your parents’ mistakes or your family’s past. You are your own person and that person happens to be a beautiful queen I intend to keep by my side, regardless of what you discover.” I held her gaze with mine, wanting her to see how serious I was.

Nothing about her would ever reveal her bloodline. I’d made sure it could never be used against her in anyway.

In the game of Old Money, it was survival of the richest. It would have been far too easy for someone else with the right funds to uncover this lit

tle secret, but she didn’t need to know that.

She sighed and looked away, picking up her fork.

“Oh, and before I forget.” Reaching into my pocket, I retrieved an orange pill bottle and sat it in front of her.

“Your pills. Your cellphone is upstairs, plugged in.”

“Um...thanks,” she said, eyeing the pills suspiciously. I didn’t blame her; they looked like they always had but they weren’t the same ones from before––something else she didn’t need to know just yet.

“Eat.” I nodded at her plate, digging into my own.

“Why did you have Eva’s cellphone?” she demanded after she’d taken a few forced bites of her pasta. She was a quick learner, I wouldn’t have said anything else until she did that.

“It was left behind on my father’s nightstand,” I openly admitted.

Her fork stopped twirling the string of spgahetti around it mid-spin.

I practically saw it really settle in that her sister had been fucking my father.Feeling the need to give her a bone, I shared some information I knew would make her feel a little better.

“Eva is closer than you think. She is not hungry, she is not being hurt, but she is detained. You more than likely do not believe me, but I promise I won’t lie to you, Elena. I never have outside of the game.”

She swallowed and nodded her head, taking a sip of red.

“There’s an event tomorrow evening. I want you there with me.”

“Are you sure about that?”

“Why would I not be sure?” I squinted at her questioningly.

“I’m not good with your kind of people.”

“My kind of people?”

“Yes––rich, sophisticated, and in one social circle kinds of people.”

I sat my utensil down and stared at her, genuinely troubled by that answer. “You are rich, and sophisticated, and you’re going to be my wife, which means you’re in my social circle.”

“So does that mean you knew my sister?”
