I lift my head and he offers me his hand, but I don’t take it.
“Forget about how this started, let's focus on how it felt near the end. It felt right to me. Like the only place I belonged was with you in my arms and in my life. Did it feel like that for you, too?”
This is all too much and I need to process all of this, but I can’t do that in public or with him here. I start to slide out of the bench.
“I need...air and time...and to not be here.”
I grab my purse and rush out of the bar, panting when I hit the sidewalk and rushing to my car in case he followed me out. There’s only one place I can go right now, and that’s to kill my ex best friend.
CHAPTER 53
Eliza
Ibang on Hannah’s front door. My emotions are all over the place right now, but my anger at her is the one living on the surface right now. Grayson is the one who pulls the door open, shock filling his expression when he sees it’s me on the other side of the door.
“Where’s your wife?” I ask.
“Hannah,” he calls, and she appears behind him.
“You.” I point at her.
She reaches for my left hand and looks at my fingers. “Babe,” she says and drags me in past Grayson.
“How could you?” I ask.
“How could I do what’s best for you?” she asks.
“What am I missing?” Grayson asks, looking between us.
“Your wife, my former best friend, convinced me to meet her at the Clover, only it wasn’t her I was meeting, she got me there so Mac could see me.”
Realization dawns on his face, and then he looks at my left hand just like Hannah. “He brought the ring?”
I throw my hands in the air. “Does everyone know?”
“No, I thought only I knew,” Hannah says, looking at Grayson.
“He told all the guys about it when Liz was here with you.”
“What did he say?” Hannah asks.
Grayson shrugs and moves to the fridge and pours himself a glass of orange juice. “He said he bought a ring and was planning to propose in London, that’s it.”
“You didn’t ask more questions?” Hannah says.
“No, we told him he was an idiot, and that was basically it.”
“You were sitting on this information and didn’t tell me? I’m your wife.”
“Yes, and I know that if I told you, everyone would know and you had already told me he was banned. Didn’t seem like it was something that needed sharing.”
Hannah crosses her arms over her chest and stares at her husband. “I’ll deal with you later,” she says and turns back to me.
Grayson chuckles and leaves us.
“So, if the man you love showed up and proposed, why are you sitting in my kitchen right now?” she asks.
“Maybe because you tricked me.”
