I dropped my peanut butter cookies on the floor and flew to the door. I opened it quickly and there he was, covered in snow, grinning wildly at me.

“Hey, I’m sorry I’m late, but I made it.” He looked at his watch and then back at me. “I wasn’t ready to say goodbye.”

I stared at him for a long time, taking him in. He was dressed in a black suit, with a white shirt and suspenders. His hair had been styled back with gel. He looked so dapper, so handsome, and yet…

“Work’s been crazy busy.” He rocked on his heels, and when our eyes met again, he grinned. “May I still come in?”

“Of course. But… Desi…”

“What?” His smile fell. “Is something wrong?”

“No, I mean, maybe.” I paused and raised a finger, tapping my cheek. “Why are you covered in blood?”
