“Your call.”

She smiled a little. “Then I think we’ll go for a careless end to a spectacularly careless week.”

Her words grated on him, so light and final, but tonight was her show. They could discuss the future later.

“Then fuck me, sweets,” he said. “Let go.”

She took his cock in her hand again and positioned it, rising over him. In one slow movement, she eased down onto him, slick and hot and so goddamn tight. Daxon clenched his teeth, resisting the urge to hold on to her hips and buck his way into oblivion. She moved slowly up and down, taking him deeper and deeper, until she’d settled, his cock buried inside her. She paused, gazing at him seriously. Was she hoping for the same things he was?

Then she began to move, and that thought faded. He slipped his hands around her waist and held on, letting her set the pace, meeting her with a flex of his hips. She was clenching around him, and he could feel that she was close, so soon. She closed her eyes and tipped her head back, like a goddess riding her way to the heavens. But he was a selfish prick, because he didn’t want her riding to the heavens. He wanted her riding to him.

“Open your eyes, Kendall,” he rasped, holding back his thrust.

She let out a frustrated moan and glared down at him.

“That’s right, sweets. I want you looking at me when you come.”

He punctuated that sentence with a hard thrust of his hips, and she found her release. She cried out, saying his name, over and over. Daxon couldn’t wait any longer. He let go, jackknifing forward as the pleasure shot through him, holding her tight against him.

“Kendall,” he whispered in her ear. “My Kendall.”

They ate burritos in the darkness of her lanai, the ocean and the wind whispering around them. Daxon had pulled his shorts on again, leaving his ripped abs for Kendall to admire as he lay back in the chaise lounge, taking his last bite. She was shamelessly staring because...well, he didn’t seem to care, so why should she? This was their last night, and she was getting her last gulp of Daxon Miles.

Plus, she was trying not to think too hard about what had happened between them in her bedroom.

My Kendall.

It was almost as if she had imagined it. But no. He had said it with a reverence that her brain wouldn’t have invented. Neither of them had spoken as they lay on the bed, their bodies slick and pressed together.

Daxon set aside the paper wrap that had held the burrito. He parted his legs and then motioned for Kendall to come sit with him.

She settled between his legs and eased back against the hard planes of his chest. He wrapped his arms around her, pulling her closer, and she rested her head against his shoulder. In front of them, the dark ocean shimmered with the last reflections of the sun. His lips pressed into her hair.

If staring at Daxon was a fun pastime, lying with him in the darkness of the night was a whole different class of pleasure. His fingers wandered under her tank top, brushing over her bare skin, radiating warmth through her body. A calm had settled through her, but it was laced with that same undercurrent of attraction that never seemed to fade around him. That was just how it was between them, she supposed. And she had one last night to enjoy it.

“What’s on your mind?” she asked.

He kissed the top of her head again. “Transcendent moments.”

Right. The topic of his infamous interview.

“You thinking about your climb?” she asked, trying to keep the disappointment out of her voice.

“Not even a little bit.”

Oh. Her stubborn heart gave a new jolt.

“Are you?” he asked after a while.

She bit her lip. “Maybe.” Now she was.

His hand stilled against her, and his breath in her ear stopped. “I wanted to talk to you about an idea.”

His voice was casual, but she could feel tension coming off him. She was almost sure whatever he wanted to say had the power to either make this moment perfect or splinter this peaceful night apart.

Kendall bit her lip. “What is it?”

“I don’t want this to end.”
