“Yesterday. You?”
“Same.”
“We’re on our way to you, but I’ll swing bythe apartment first and see if he’s there.”
“I sent Dante over there.”
“Okay. See you soon.”
He hung up before she could reply. Cassidystood and stared at the stage before turning away from it. Shedidn’t know if it was twin intuition or not, but she couldn’t shakethe sick feeling churning in her stomach.
She made her way back to the bar. Resting herhands on top of it, she leaned forward and pitched her voice tocarry over the growing noise of the crowd.
“I have to go, Rick,” she told hermanager.
He rose from where he was shoving asideglasses in search of something. “Now you’re going to run off andleave me hanging?”
“I’m worried about Kyle. I have to findhim.”
“Knowing your brother, he’s fucking someoneand fuckingmein the process.”
“I wish that were true, but I don’t think itis.”
“If you leave here, you’re both fired.”
Sorrow tugged at Cassidy’s heart. She lovedher job, and she’d hate to lose it, but she loved Kyle far more. She could take control of Rick’s mind and change it, but shecouldn’t waste the time it would take. Besides, she didn’t likebeing threatened because she was concerned about her brother.
“Fire me then,” she said.
She didn’t wait to hear his response beforestalking down the hall to the employee room. She gathered her stuffand fled out the back door. Cassidy ran to the apartment she onceshared with Aida and Kyle.
When she arrived, Julian, Dante, and Aidastood in the living room. “He’s not here.”
It came out as more of a statement than aquestion, but the three of them shook their heads in response.
“Do you know where Melanie lives?” Julianasked.
“No.”
“That’s okay; I’ll figure it out.”
“Why aren’t you at work?” Dante asked.
“Something’s not right. And I’ve beenfired.”
“Cassidy—”
“It’s okay,” she interrupted. “We have tofind him.”
“We will,” he assured her as he pulled herclose.

Dante knocked on the apartment door andleaned against the frame as he waited for a reply. Beside him,Cassidy shifted from foot to foot as she wrung her hands nervouslybefore her as she kept herself restrained from beating on the doorlike a madwoman.
Dante reached over the door and felt alongthe frame before bending to lift the welcome mat. He didn’t find akey in either place. Rising, he knocked on the door again.
“No one is home,” Julian said.
