“Where would you go?” he asked.
“I don’t know, but I like having the option.”
When they lapsed into silence, she picked up her pizza again. It was cold, but she didn’t care as she bit into it.
Chapter Eleven
Asher woke shortly before dawn.Elena was sleeping again when Logan sat by his side and filled him in on everything since leaving the compound.
“Have you talked to Ronan?” Asher asked.
“I haven’t talked to anyone. The phones here don’t do long-distance, and my phone didn’t survive our escape from the compound. I don’t know where yours is.”
Asher patted his pockets, but Logan told him, “I already searched them. There’s nothing there.”
“It must have fallen out at some point.”
“That’s what I assumed.”
“You didn’t go to get a phone?”
“I couldn’t leave you here while you were unconscious.”
Asher glanced at Elena’s back. “You don’t trust her?”
“There are few I would trust while you were so weak.”
“I understand. So what do we do now?”
“Now that you’re awake, and as soon as she is, we’ll figure out something with the phones and get some new clothes. I also have to feed.”
“Why don’t you go feed now?”
“I’ll wait until you’ve healed more first.” Asher started to protest, but Logan held up a hand to stop him. “I can wait, and you should rest a little more. You lost a lot of blood.”
In response, Asher sat further up on the bed and propped his back against the headboard. “You should go feed. You’re pale, and you have shadows under your eyes. I’m feeling a lot better.”
Logan glanced at Elena again. “I don’t want her hurt.”
Asher frowned at him. “I wouldn’t hurt her.”
“And if she attacked you?”
“Do you think she will?”
“I think she’s grown to trust me more, but I’m not sure. I am a vampire, after all.”
“You are vile monsters,” Asher agreed, and Logan gave him the finger.
“To some hunters, we are.”
Asher winced when he shifted on the bed. It took him a couple of seconds, but eventually, he settled into a better position.
“If she attacks me, I won’t hurt her,” Asher said. “But you really should feed. The two of us still aren’t 100 percent, and if you’re weak too, we’ll all be in trouble if someone or somethingattacks us now.”
Logan hated that what he said made sense, but he was loath to leave them alone in this room.
“Go,” Asher said. “And if you can get your hands on a phone, then do so.”
