“Well, your fiancée took the brunt of thefire,” Orin said. “She lost all her clothes, but the rest of herremained intact.”
Cole’s hands fisted again. If she’d beenanyone else, the dragon fire would have killed her, but she was farfrom anyone else.
“Others saw her?” he growled.
No one answered him, which was the wisestchoice. It was irrational to be annoyed by this, but the lycan wasnot pleased that others had seenhismate naked.
He took another deep breath, drawing herscent into his lungs and holding it there as he allowed it tosoothe him.
“Okay,” he said through his teeth.
“And then the dragon landed, put its head onthe ground, and looked at her,” Orin continued.
“It was truly amazing,” Varo whispered. “Itlooked like it was sorry for what it did.”
Cole glanced at Orin, the more cynical of hisbrothers. He simply couldn’t believe a dragon would be remorsefulabout anything.
“It’s true,” Orin confirmed. “It was amazingand scary and strange.”
Hearing Orin admitting to anything beingscary was new for Cole. It must have been a spectacle to see ifOrin was impressed. “I’m sorry I missed it.”
“She has a connection to the dragons; we haveto find out how much of one,” Orin said.
Cole chose to ignore him; he wasn’t in themood to figure it out. “Is she okay?”
“She’ll be better once you’re with her,” Varosaid.
“I can’t go to her looking like this.”
“There’s a shower in the bathroom on thisfloor,” Orin said. “I’ll take you there.”
“I’ll get you some clothes,” Varooffered.
“Have you seen Torigon?” he asked.
“No,” Orin said. “But he can’t get out of thebuilding, so I’m sure he’s fine.”
“How is the Gloaming?” Varo asked.
“On fire,” Cole replied. “But I think we gotmost, if not everyone, out safely.”
“If anyone remains, it’s because of their owndoing,” Niall said. “I thought you two were dead.”
“Many do, and that was the plan,” Orinsaid.
“You have more lives than a cat,” Niallreplied. “I’m not sure that’s a good thing.”
Orin and Niall had never gotten along, butOrin wasn’t exactly Mr. Personality.
“Oh, good, another immortal who likes to pickon poor little me,” Orin retorted. “This way.”
“How is it possible Lexi withstood dragonfire?” Niall asked.
Cole fell in beside his brother as theywalked down the hall. “I’ll explain everything to you soon,” hesaid to Niall.
“I’m looking forward to it.”
Orin led them to a small room with craggyrock walls, a sink, toilet, and a shower set into the back wall. There was no curtain or door to cover the shower; it was simply afaucet sticking out of the wall with a drain below it.
