He’d certainly charmed Zina, who was smiling back at him. She’d soon be advocating to untie him too.

“And we had to take you with us,” Brie said. “We couldn’t leave you there to be captured by the Savages and turned into one.”

Asher stopped smiling. “So, you know what they’re doing.”

Brie clamped her mouth together as she feared giving away too much, but what difference did it make? There’s no way he could deduce her plans or more about her from that simple statement.

“We know,” she said.

“And do you know my friends and I are working to stop it?”

“Yes, I know about the Alliance.”

“How?”

“We’re not completely locked away from society. Vampires talk.”

Which was true, and they liked to talk alot. Though it had been a while since any of them had been in a vampire club or bar, vamps were talking about the Alliance years ago. Even without the gossip vine, she’d seen the Alliance in her visions, but he didn’t need to know that.

“What do they say?” he asked.

“That you’re hunting the Savages and demons. There was a lot of concern about being caught by the Savages and demons. I’m sure that hasn’t lessened over the years.”

“And what are you doing to try to stop it?”

He wasn’t surprised when she didn’t answer him, but he’d figured it was worth a shot. The woman was a steel vault, and he was determined to crack her. There had to be some way to break through her tough exterior.

Brie turned to Cabo and Zina. “We’ll bring him in the van. If we find somewhere we can leave him, we’ll do it. If not, he’s coming with us.”

“Fine,” Cabo muttered.

“We should probably feed him first,” Zina said.

Brie had forgotten that humans liked to eat. “Fine,” she relented.

“Thanks,” Asher said and chuckled when she shot him a disgruntled look. “Also, a bathroom would be great.”

When Brie and Cabo glowered at him, he grinned and wiggled onto his back to kick the blanket off before rising.

Asher didn’t knowhow long they drove as the van bumped over back roads and potholes, cruised down highways, and zipped in and out of traffic. All the while, he bounced around in the back.

Before leaving, they’d tied his hands in front of him, which was alotmore comfortable, but sitting on the metal floor, wedged against the wall to keep from sliding around, was not his idea of fun. He’d survived a lot worse, but resentment shot through him every time his teeth clacked together.

He was curious to know what these three were up to, but he grew increasingly annoyed with his situation. However, he could be in the hands of the Savages; this was a five-star resort compared to that.

But he missed having free hands, sleep, and his friends. Logan wouldn’t be taking this well. His friend had become halfway unhinged when his mate, Elena, was injected with that fucking serum the demons and Savages started unleashing on them.

That garbage turned normal, non-killing vamps and hunters into homicidal, mindless machines. Although, in the month since Elena was injected, she’d calmed down some. She’d stopped attacking the glass of her cell and now stood and watched everything with a calculating eye that unnerved Asher more than he’d ever admit.

Logan saw the transformation as a good sign and was hopeful Elena would shed the effects of the serum if she were given more time. That seemed to be their only hope as it felt like they’d tried everything possible to save her and the others.

She wasn’t the only one injected, and they’d experimented on all of them without any success. The hunter compound in Arizona also wasn’t having any luck in saving their hunters who had fallen victim to the serum too.

He hadn’t heard about any others being injected since the demons and Savages raided the compound and took away the safety of their home, but that didn’t mean it wasn’t happening somewhere else. If the Savages had captured him last night, they might have injected him with that shit instead of taking him somewhere to torture him into becoming a Savage.

He suspected they would prefer to torture him into becoming one of them. It was more fun for them, and when it was over, he would be a lot more rational and controllable than one of the injected.
