“Oh, shit. I–”
“Did you mean it?” Kennedy asked.
“I… I did, yeah. I just shouldn’t have blurted it out like that. I know it’s soon, but–”
“Let’s go upstairs,” she said, wrapping her arms around River’s neck.
“I thought you wanted to…”
“I don’t want that anymore. I want us to be in bed and with you on top of me when you say that again. I don’t want us to fuck in this kitchen. I want us to make love in bed after we say that for the first time.”
River gave her a somewhat worried expression and replied, “Wehaven’t said it.”
Kennedy pressed her lips to River’s for a few seconds, letting their lips graze after, and whispered, “I love you. Make love to me?”
River nodded and kissed her slowly.
CHAPTER 44
River
“It was great meeting you,” Calista said.
“You too,” Kennedy replied. “We should do this again sometime.”
“Agreed. I can’t wait until I can have some of that amazing wine you brought us.” Ashton added, placing her hand over her stomach.
“Come on, babe. Let’s get you to bed.”
“She’s being an annoyingly overprotective partner to a pregnant woman,” Ashton teased.
“You love it. Come on. Good night, you two.”
“Night,” River said.
“Oh, and Kennedy, nice call with the new table in here. The old one was… Well, old.”
“Hey!” River said.
Kennedy placed her head on River’s shoulder and said, “It was River’s idea. I just helped her pick it out. She only had that tiny table for two up here, but if we’re having people over for dinner, we need more space than that.”
“Can we be done picking on River now?” River asked.
“Just tonight.” Ashton winked at her. “Night.”
“Bye,” River replied with a chuckle, walking them to the door to see them out, and when she turned around, she sawKennedy standing there, looking at her with a wide smile on her face. “What?”
“Well, it’s my last night here before I’m in pre-production.”
“I know. I’m sorry. They just wanted to meet you before you left, and this was the only night we were all free.”
“No, that’s not what I meant. I like your friends, babe,” Kennedy said. “I just meant that soon, I won’t have all sorts of goodies at my disposal.”
“Did you just call my lady partsgoodies?”
Kennedy laughed and said, “No. I meant the literal candy shop beneath our feet. Although, now that you’ve mentioned it, I do love your goodies.”
“You want some now?”
