“What the fuck, Fox!” I slurred angrily. “Every damn time! Are you a fucking genie that I didn’t realize I’d released or was there a distress signal flashing from my fucking vagina? How the fuck do you know exactly when to show up?”

I expected Fox to reply a snappy retort but instead, he stopped walking and threw his head back and laughed. A full out belly laugh that made him sink to his knees, but his arms never let go of me.

“You are insane, girl,” he gasped out as he continued to howl with laughter.

“Just put me down.” I tried to shake loose from his arms.

“Uh-uh, no way. The cops are on patrol and they’ll take your drunk ass in for sure.”

“I don’t care.” I wiggled again as he stood and began walking.

“Just quit it, Harley. Give yourself a break from this tough girl act for one night, okay?”

I stopped struggling in order to glare at him or at least I think I was glaring at him. My vision had doubled, and I wasn’t exactly sure which Fox to look at. When we reached his car, he settled me inside and fastened my belt. I lurched forward in a half-hearted attempt to bolt, not because I wanted to run away but because I didn’t want him to think he could control me that easily.

“Stay,” he commanded with a growl, and for some reason, I felt a jolt of heat between my thighs. That was kind of hot. I crossed my arms with a huff and narrowed my eyes at him as he closed the door and sprinted to the other side. As soon as he closed the driver’s side door he shifted the car into motion.

“What’s your first name, Fox?” I had no idea why the random question popped into my drunken mind, but it was out of my mouth before I realized that I even cared to know his first name. He looked at me and shrugged.

“People just call me Fox.”

“I realize that, but I want to know your first name. I think your brother started to call you something that started with a D.”

Fox remained silent.

“Am I right? Does it start with a D?”

“Why do you want to know my first name so badly?” he asked, sounding exasperated.

“Why are you trying so hard to not answer my question?” I countered, mimicking his exasperation. “Will you at least confirm that it starts with a D and if I’m right all you have to do is say yes.” Fox twisted his mouth as he kept his eyes on the road.

“Fine, it starts with a D.”

I clapped my hands clumsily and immediately started guessing.

“Daniel.”

He shook his head.

“Okay, David.”

“Nope.”

“Derek, Donald or Darwin?”

“No, no and no.”

The drive continued like that for several more minutes as I continued with every D name I could think of. “Drake, Darren, Dennis, Doug, Dexter, Dilbert.”

He shook his head at each one.

“Damn it,” I grumbled.

“Nope, not that either.”

“Smart-ass.”

“That doesn’t start with a D.”
