When he slowly slipped inside of me, he was bare, and I cried out at the sensation. I craved it all, the feel of our hot skin moving together as he filled me over and over, the way we glided our tongues together in time with our hips as we took our time building pleasure. I’d never made love before, not really. I’ve had slow and sensual sex that I thought was making love, but I now knew when you made love, your hearts, and your bodies became one. Every part of me accepted Fox into my being for however long it lasted.

****

We woke up Sunday morning and made breakfast. Well, Fox made breakfast because I am a horrible cook and then we lazed in bed afterward. I was laying tucked at his side with my head on his chest when I asked him about Woody.

“So, Woody is going to race Knight next Saturday?”

“Yeah,” he replied and stiffened just a bit.

“Why is that such a bad thing? It’s just a race. I don’t see why it makes everyone angry. So, what if Knight gets the number three spot.”

“Right, but then he’ll immediately call out the number two spot.”

“Okay and if he does?”

“Then I’ll have to race him.”

I sat up and looked wide-eyed at Fox. “You’re number two on the list?” I asked, and he nodded. It never even occurred to me that he raced and that he was good at it.

“If Woody holds his position against Knight then I don’t need to race, which is why I’ve been trying to help get his car ready.”

“Knight said that Woody owed him money.”

“Yeah, apparently my brother borrowed a lot of money from Knight. Woody planned to win a race down in Florida in order to pa

y it back, but he lost that race. Knight is not patient about his money and Woody knew that shit when he borrowed it, which pisses me off even more. He’s not the kind of guy you want to owe money to, trust me. Plenty of people learned that lesson the hard way.”

He explained how Knight was known to hire goons to break a few bones if the money couldn’t be collected. In some cases, people had turned over their cars to cover the debt, one guy even had to give up his house.

“Why would Woody take money from him? I mean, what could be worth the risk?”

“The same thing it always is with him, gambling. He’s had problems with a few bookies and Woody’s mouth is always bigger than his pocket. I guess he chose the lesser of two evils.”

“What did he have to say for himself?”

“Hal came down on him pretty hard. He’s twenty-five years old and hasn’t done shit with his life. He doesn’t help at the restaurant or with any of the real estate properties. Hal owns Woody’s race car so he threatened to sell it. Woody promised to get his act together so only time will tell. It’s kind of hard to say that I’ll never help him out again if he needs it. He’s my brother, you know? I just hope I never have to after this.”

“So how does he plan to get the money?”

“For Saturday’s race the entry fee is a thousand dollars plus any side bets and there are ten racers on the lineup. The person in the number one spot at the end gets the ten grand.”

“Woody plans to win the number one spot? How?”

“Before Knight challenged him, he was going to call me out and I was going to throw the race, so he could have a shot at number one. But since Knight won that last race against Judge and moved to the fourth spot, he’s called out Woody.”

“Right, Woody is number three on the list. What happens if he loses?”

“Then I’ll have to race Knight and try to win the money.”

“Oh. That all sounds complicated.”

“It’s not. Woody is fast, he can take Knight.” Fox seemed really confident in his statement, so I decided to just nod. We laid in silence for a moment before he started speaking.

“Kind of have a confession to make,” he said as he turned to me.

“What?” I asked as my heart seized a little.

“Remember the day we met, and you asked me why I was so far from the island?”
