IGNACIO

Don’t kill me! I can tell you something.

A secret that is so great, so big,

that if you knew it, you would be

powerful beyond your wildest dreams.

Ignacio drops to the floor. Ramona and Methat look at each other and then run over to Ignacio. He is dying on the floor.

RAMONA

What? Tell us! Tell us this secret.

IGNACIO

When I . . . (coughs) . . . was living in the rain . . . (coughs even more) . . . forest . . .

He moans, in pain.

RAMONA

Tell us. (Shaking him)

IGNACIO

I buried something there, by the great rock. Something important . . . (coughs) . . . something that I had in the plane with me. Something that could change the world.

RAMONA

What is it?

IGNACIO

You must never let it fall into the wrong hands.

His coughing escalates as he clings onto life.

RAMONA

Tell us what it is?

IGNACIO

It’s a . . . (moans loudly) . . . a . . . it’s . . .

He dies. Methat and Ramona look at each other.

RAMONA

NOOOOO!

End of Scene 1

I walked to my dressing room; the day had gone better than I thought. I’d been treated like some kind of star, because my character now bore the name of the show. I could almost see my mother’s face—she would be so happy for me. I wished I could call her and tell her. I wished I could call Emmy and tell her. I wished I could call Ryan . . . this was what I’d wanted for so long.Then why did it feel so empty?Why did it feel like I was missing something so huge in my life? But I knew the answer to that, of course I did: it was because Ryan and I were no longer together.

I walked through the studio lot to my trailer. It was small as far as trailers went, certainly not what Meryl would get, but I was grateful for the space. I noticed that my lights were on inside, but I was sure I’d switched them off. The warm glow of the light through the windows looked welcoming, after a long day on the set. I reached for the door handle, pushed it open and then . . .
